Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.
I certainly understand not wanting to get into a debate about your illness and beliefs on the bus and it might help in the future if you just dont discuss it with strangers. I wont because they usually have no clue about what I experience.
You are right, its a waste of time talking to the brainwashed. We all need to do what works for us. If their belief in their God keeps them sane and happy, good luck to them. Sadly it doesn't work for everyone and yes they are so irresponsible telling you to go off meds.
Dialogues with others who are spiritual are okay, unless they are obsessed and are toxic to your situaiton.
If medications work for you, then you should take them. There is no shame in taking medication. You are invested in your own wellness. Many of the more MODERN religious folk are now beginning to realize that mental illness is not possession and some folks need medication.
The spiritual aspects of self examination with values, or simple prayer or fellowship iwth others is good.
People who use religion to be abusive and toxic are dangerous and should be avoided, but the faithful who are interested in being good people and wanting to commune with God are good people.....
Trust the stable, good hearted, low key spiritual people here on dailystrength and not weird strangers who are cultish.........
Dialogue: an interaction where people respet disagreement and may walk away with a changed mind in some areas
Conversation: an interaction wherein individuals only see thier own point, who try and convert the other person to their position
Ad Hominem: suing blame, repetition and personal attack to make another person accept the others point without question
I heard Jehovah witness'es have inverted nipples from others saying and poking: GET OFF MY PORCH!
hahahhaha
bless everyone in what they believe..but dont push if for (blank) sakes! Each has their own comfort in what gives us peace.
i'd take an anti-god prescription.
I was just wondering about it since it seems like a lot of people have the same kind of advice. And even some of my non religious family members think medication for mental disorders is bad. I have no idea what the logic or reasoning is behind it. I guess they believe it is my fault and my personality flaw or something and that I can just change or fix it on my own. I think they think that I am making this all up as an excuse to not work or something. I've been told I'm just lazy, basically. I no longer look to my family for support as they obviously do not understand, and they do have their own issues (alcoholism).
but I wasn't starting this as a religious debate. I respect other peoples beliefs just respect mine as well. I was just curious why it seems like so many christians would give this kind of advice?
Unfortunately I know of a few people who need to be medicated but view it as some kind of weakness or something and refuse to take any medications at all. And I think advice like this has effected how they think about medication.
Ekatephna is right when she says this probably stems from the old beliefs in demon possession and god can cast them out.
Being spiritual and supportive is fine, but don't take advice from strangers is my advice....lol but I am a stranger too!
