Personally I'm going to try a psychologist my expirience with social workers is that they really don't know what they are doing when it comes to me.
I feel they lack an adequate education, just my opinion. It's not that they can't be helpful in other areas of life but one of my recent social workers had no idea what they criteria for ADD was. She didn't even know anything about drug addiction which is another thing I'm in therapy over.
Honestly I don't feel that I am getting help any more and now I"m in the process of firing my pdoc and tdoc and moving on.
I need more intensive care then what I am currently getting. It would save me hospital trips and hospital bills if I had professionals who know what the F they are doing! I'm tired of messing around with 30 year olds fresh out of college who are using me as a guinea pig.
My pdoc wasn't that bad but she's unavailable when ever I need her the most!
I've had it!
so what does every one think? Is a psychologist better than a plain therapist/social worker?
And I already know to get a new pdoc

Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.

Psychologists work with therapy..
Ive had a wonderful social worker in the last year.. they can be very motivating...
Ive had a psychologist once and therapists.. I found them both to be good..x
I can already get social services as there is a book that floats around every where listing all available services. Luckily I'm well enough to find them myself.
I just feel that my past therapists which apparently social workers are calling them selves these days, are just not the same. I need really help here not just pussy footing around.
First I want to say that therapists and social workers are two different things. If you need psychiatric help then of course you would go to a psychologist. If you need therapy you go to a therapist - if you need assistance with other social issues you see a social worker.
I wouldn't expect any one of the three to have the training or experience that the other two have. Many people see all three types. Just gotta decide what kinda help you are seeking I guess.
But I felt social worker just didn't sound good enough. I've had social workers in rehab and they sucked. They have no idea what they are doing nor do they have any knowledge or experience with mental illness.
But I keep reading that both can be effective. I suspect that people making that claim them selves don't know what they are talking about.
I think I will go with the psychologist as I feel they have more education on mental illness and it will be far more helpful to me in the long run as that is what I'm struggling with not behavior nor resources problems.
Thank you every one for your input I appreciate it. Straight answers from people I trust!
Love you all!
I cannot stand it when someone is incompetent.
Psychologists can deal with human relationships and how to deal with traumas. SW's are supposed to refer you out, to help get insurance or to make sure that you aren't discriminated against on your job or in your home.
Personally I think I need the well trained professional as I have complicated problems and I'm very high maintenance all around. I need some one well equipt to handle me and help me stay on target.
So far today was a bust. The number of Psychologists listed are so very few. I'm limited to what medicare covers which is piss poor apparently. So far no one is taking new clients.
Once again I just can't get the help I need. I've given up for today as I"m just too tired to make any more phone calls.
A tdoc is good but like you said you want one that is 35-55 years old and knows life a bit. My tdoc has a brackground in testifying in court for people and is very very smart. He jsst doesnt listen He brings me up short quite a bit.
If you go to a pdoc make sure they are a pdoc and not an MD.
These are JUST MY opinions

My tdoc lets me run off at the mouth but I see him every week. I have no idea if he reads them at all.
My tdoc is available by emergency phone also. Call his emergency line and he will call back within 12 hours lots of time less. My pdoc the same way. BUT I have been seeing my pdoc 5 years and my tdoc the same. I cut my tdoc out for a year and came back.
And I'm finding out that straight up welfare had better coverage than medicare! I'm on disability for a mental illness yet that is not one of the well covered areas in my medical plan.
Now I'm looking into finding another SNP but today I'm taking a break I'll pick back up tomorrow. Right now I'm tired as hell and need some down time.
