Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.

One hospital I was REALLLLy loony (there were two sides those who were out of their minds and those recovering most people were on the bad side a few days I was their 10 days) and had good food would nt let you off the floor, had smoking courrt and some not nice nurses. Not so good drugs.
Third and Fourth hospital had irritating nurses frustrating actually, I felt I was in a motel without a pool, studies were plausible but not useful. It was as though Bozo the clownwas trying to teach Chanel the art of fashion design. I felt caged in. I felt 8 years old. I am afraid of having to go back there.
After that it isn't pleasant to be incarcerated but one of the three hospitals was the pits, totally degrading. The other two were like spas in comparison. I've also been in jail several times and I much prefer a decent hospital. Still, I think we can take good from a bad hospital experience.
It would be a horrible experience to be treated badly..x
Good experience in the first 2 stays at the same hospital just cuz of this one nurse I loved her.
The last stay was boring as hell! No therapy or anything or anything to do
when in lock up (padded cell, no toilet)
They don't like being disturbed at mid night, out come the meds to knock you out. haha dont go there anymore, touch wood..........
one was horrible all the staff seemed afraid of me and very judgemental, the other was great alot of groups, indiv therapy, activities, stress relief activities, smoking area, great food.I was treated with respect and compassion there and it was very helpful for me to be there as I was able to leave feeling a whole lot better about myself and my life.
And I have been in a state run hospital in Kentucky (someone out there reading this might know the one I am talking about) where I had a dipshit nurse practitioner as my doctor and was left with people of very low functioning, very psychotic and violent, scary patients. With hideous food, deplorable conditions. I slept with 2 shirts, a heavy sweater, a heavy wool jacket, 2 sheets and 2 blankets and still nearly froze to death. I am not exaggerating. This really happened. It made the hospital in "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" look like the Ritz Carlton.
Anyways, I have been in one with a swimming pool and tennis courts, and I have been in one with no toilet paper in the bathrooms and NO privacy in the shower. Horrid.
and as far as the tennis courts are concerned I climbed it lol
Another time they put me in an adjoining room with a male. We were sharing the bathroom which was really creepy and sold me on never going back there.
The other hospital was much better and I was the crazy one.
back in the day (adolescent) they let you smoke. it was a comfy safe place, segregated boys and girls. made some intersting friends, including one girl (13) who was bipolar and was pimped out by her mom on the streets, sweetheart...
2nd time.....FUCKING NIGHTMARE...sexes mixed. was on unit with a two time rapist who was only there to skirt the law, heroin addicts and us bipolars( the most likeable group) was stripped searched upon admission and was forced to sit in a recliner room for 3 days until a bed opened up. everytime the tv turned off there one patient would freak the fuck out and had to be taken to the strap room(no door, listening to screams that would shake you in your bones)
my family visited only to watch them walk away crying and shaky.
two good things tho, i met a girl like me and one night we brought our blankets out of our rooms and laid under the tiny opening where you could see the stars.....and the food rocked.
1 stay in a hospital that was scary and I wanted to do was get out. They put 4 people to a room. They knew I was the sanest one there and I basically stayed glued to the staff until I was let out in a day and a half.
2 stays in a hospital that was pretty nice. It was carpeted and had basket ball courts and a nice little courtyard with picnic tables. The staff was really friendly and there was a lot to do. This hospital has 4 units so each unit has a different severity. I was on the "best functioning" unit so it wasn't as scary.
1 stay at the same hospital in a unit that was a step down from the one I stayed in before because they were out of beds on the other unit. It was a lot smaller, segregated by sex and not private rooms. Totally sucked.
The first hospital was run by Seventh Day Adventist and it was by far the best one. I was enjoying the meals until some idiot stopped me and told me that the chicken I was eating wasn't real chicken.
Screwed that up for me. I couldn't eat anything after that. OCD you know.
The other hospital was an HMO run hospital. It had only those stupid garden plastic chairs to sit in and not enough of those. Those damn chairs cannot compare to Laz-Z- Boy recliners that I have at home. The food really sucked too. It was hard to eat getting past the smell.
I worked too long in nice restaurants to handle the crappy food.
I lived off of the packaged chips, fruit, and cookies.
The one I go to most is nice. Coffee on all day. Decent nurses. Private showers. No smoking though. That sucks.
