Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.
Hi all! I've been away for awhile. I just got diagnosed with Congestive Heart failure and I'm trying to come to terms with it. My bipolar has been stable for 5 1/2 years now but with this news I'm fighting a bit of a dip in mood. I'm a bit confused and trying to learn how to change my diet. I don't know if my husband will be happy making some drastic diet changes with me. I guess we'll have to seriously discuss this as he loves his meat and potatoes and pasta and doesn't like fish. He loves his beef and I know that's a no-no for me. Since I don't enjoy cooking anymore at this point in my life (I'm 68) I don't want to cook two different meals every evening. I don't know what I'm looking for -- I guess I just want someone to hear me and maybe have a good word of advice. Thanks for listening.

I'm feeling down,, and got alot on my mind right now. I got grief going on, on top my depression and anxiety and now I got to worry about somewhere to live since I can't afford living here since my mom passed. So many bad things have happened since my mom passed. One thing after another it seems. Yesterday our fence fell from a storm that hit, had to call someone to prop it up. Thank...
Staying away from salt will be really important moving forward and your husband can add salt if he wants it
Maybe cooking is something that you can do together if there will be more to do
Salads are good and easy to me.... Big hug of support and healing....xo
Good to see you in the neighborhood again! Yes our health has a way of bringing a lot of change to our lives. Congestive heart failure is no laughing matter....
Looks like you and your partner will have to come to an understanding about healthy food....not all change is negative stepping away from meat is really good...
Start with vegetables and eating more of them and fruit...don't give up on flavor.
I've always eaten well I grow my own veggies, and I've been a vegetarian for 50 years. My cholesterol was very low, and now it is way below normal.
My husband is very demanding about food. But we went to an eating for Diabetes Workshop after he got diagnosed. When it was over, he said that it was basically the diet I eat. So, sometimes he will barbecue a steak, but generally he eats healthy-meaning, what I make him.
I spent a lot of time reading about heart diets, and came to the conclusion what I am eating is just fine. Almost identical to the heart and the diabetes diet. You need to tell your husband you are going to be eating healthy meals for your heart. He can join you, or make his own meals. Men can be such babies.
Also, my heart disease came from prednisone and RA damaging my heart. Congestive Heart Failure is often hereditary. My father died if it at age 83, and my grandfather at 78.
If they give you meds, take them as directed. They have made a huge difference to me!
