Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.
i worked with a black woman and she mentioned her race frequently.. it defined her.. and the people she was around "thats how black people are, they dont call" all i could say back was, all people can be rude.. i was a bit put off that she thought only black people could be rude and not call.. suppose i shouldnt have cared by why was she basing bad behavior on skin color.. her own.. weird.
i have heard it from many black women.. "im black, i always will be", in a bad tone as if they were born broken.. thats a bit messed up.. no pill you can take for black and i didnt think of it that much an issue myself.. but i didnt witness their life and cant imagine how they have been treated to get them to that point.
i will tell you.. i have my own thing for stereotyping rich people.. no matter the color.. i worked around them long enough that certain behaviors were apparent.. like oblivion to anyone less fortunate than they were. but thats me and my own crap.
I had a friend with a Ph.d in sociology who was black. He had an interesting theory about immigration - that the latest group is always the one targeted for racism. He did a lot of research and it seemed to fit. Of course, blacks in the southern states might be an exception to that rule.
I have very little prejudice about ethnicity or race. But I do have my own blind spots, such as red necks (we have a lot of them around here) although when I get to know them, I really have no issues with them as people.
I think we all define ourselves in different ways. Certainly race, religion, politics, economic status and education are all ways to pigeon-hole people. I know that my two best friends are Latinas from South America. They really broke a lot of my stereotypes, realizing they are two of the best friends I have ever had in my life.
I used have prejudice against Christians before I became one. I thought they were all pretty ignorant, which is a real stereotype. When I became one, I started having prejudice against cults which grew to other religions. I took world religions last year, and we had to interact with people from other faiths. It made me realize that Muslims were really nice people. I used to teach Sikh and Hindu children and came to love them dearly, with a few exceptions that weren't based on religion or race but simply personality differences.
I think the more we break through barriers and try to understand where people are coming from, the more understanding we will have for people. There are some vast cultural differences, and some of them we will never understand. Even the difference between English speakers across the world, is reflected in this forum.
I'm for treating others as I would like them to treat me.I think that might be the answer to stereotypes.
i heard about this one guy having to sell one of his jets, cause it was getting too pricey.. had lobsters flown in from maine.. hahaha!! what a life. i dont know if i could stand myself that rich..
I really wanted to know what people thought about stereo types that pixar makes. And it has made many of them in the past. And so have just about every kids movie. And what people thought of them.
Is it good to be exposed to all the stereo types in the media or even in private life?
Maybe I would have felt differently if some one hadn't insulted my neighbors culture as a stereo type. Maybe I could have just enjoyed something new to me. But because of a stereo type I had to sit there feeling bad for thinking it. Why because some one came up with it and then made it derogatory even though there's nothing derogatory about fried chicken.
And the north may look all rosy on the surface but there is a but ton of racism there. It's more insidious when it's hidden behind close doors. If you knew the things people say.

I don't think kids movie makers like disney, pixar teach stereotyping but rather use ir to their advantage for a story line or mere entertainment value. ppl not judging others is like telling water not to be wet. it will continue to exist as long as man exists...it's an unfortunate issue, but nothing can be done really. your neighbor seems to have just accepted it...she didn't seem angry at all when she said it, right? you shouldn't beat urself up on feeling bad. your a human being. as long as it doesn't influence the WAY you think and what you believe in, be happy that your not a contributing factor. I see how that situation may have been uncomfortable, but please don't feel bad about it. *hugs* xoxoxo
