OT For the Love of Maury

I know this isn't a cat lovers group,but I just wanted to share something with you that's troubling me.
Remember I told you about the 4 feral cats living in a condemned trailer across the street from me. I've been feeding them,loving them and generally trying to earn their trust so they can be trapped and taken to a stranger's farm,to put it bluntly. "Whitey" unfortunately ran away,I pray to a good home. The thing is they are now what I consider my cats. I don't want to do anything to frighten them,yet I don't have any say about it because they are living on someone else's property. Anyway that's too complex to get into. Long story short,Maury,the male cat,is sick. His eyes look terrible and he's very lethargic. (His name used to be Donnie but I decided that Maury fit him better.) I tried getting close to him so I could put him in my small pet carrier and take him to the vet,but he ran from me. People here have offered to help me but that's already been tried and doesn't work. Animals are extremely bright and they know when something's up.Those of you who pray or send good thoughts,can you help me out with this? It's hurting me because I adore these cats and don't want them to be taken away,but I have no choice.Just hope that Maury will allow me to take him to Dr. W so he can be treated and get better.

I'm so sorry he's sick Loddy... Could you call SPCA and see if they could come out to help??

I agree with Jan. Sometimes the only way to catch a feral or very shy cat is to use a humane trap (the kind where they step in and the door closes behind them). I hope a local shelter can help you to catch him. And thanks for caring - those cats need someone looking out for them ((hugs))

Yes, I think a call to the SPCA or the Humane Society would be good.

If the SPCA can't help, the department of fish and wildlife may be able to as well. Good luck, Loddy!! I think what you're doing is great and is having a positive reaction in the cats. Good job!

Mission aborted...Maury wasn't even around this morning and I inadvertently frightened the other cats as well. I feel terrible. These cats have given me so much joy,but a lot of heartache as well because they're not really mine,as I said. I called the Humane Society but they couldn't help. It's only a little after eight and as far as I can tell,the whole day is ruined.

awwww loddy, I do know how you feel....remember I found those 2 new born kittens 1 yr ago....I saved them feeding them with a bottle and such....they have given me so much joy....but....when I went in for there shots I found one had leukemia but I am going to deal with it, I cant separate them they love each other so much and I love to go out back and they follow me around...leukemia is catching to all other cats with out shots.....I cant help that...she stays close here....I love them....

I'm OK now. The only thing is, I feel bad because every time I feel I'm getting closer to the cats and earning their trust,I do something dumb that scares them off. Sorry if I feel self-pity,but I feel alone in this,that's why I come here to get encouragement from you guys.I don't want Sophie,Mitzi and Maury to go to a stupid farm. I love them and I want them with me. Nobody else loves them like I do.
