OT did I just take a drink??

Not sure if it's okay to post this here and won't know how to delete it if it's not...so anyway...here goes...

Yep, after over 9 years of not drinking alcohol (my poison), I just swallowed a pill with what was left in a glass of vodka and melted ice!! Blehhhh. I had poured my hubby a drink earlier and put in too much vodka (yes, I bartended my way thru school) and I guess I didn't fully empty the small glass and left it right where I place a glass of water to take my pills with each day.

So is my streak up?? :) As if it reeeeally matters. I've had pill problems since then, but the booze is my real best-pal-slash-arch-rival. Wonder what my therapist would say.

Just for the record, it was straight NASTY. Downing psych meds with liquor. I've stooped to a new level. ;0)

it's like finding out there's liquore in the cheescake after you've had a slice. :P

congrats on the sobriety. booze is an 800 pound bee sting! keep up the good work.

thanks mojo, I like that answer. yep, I've been a lot of places but booze is the one that slammed me to the ground.

You guys are awesome. Thanks so much. Makes me feel better about the whole thing. I freaked out pretty badly. So glad it was me who left the glass there and not my dear hubby. He would have felt awful. Yeah, and I'm thankful it tasted so gross to me! I'll take that as a good sign too! Thanks again all.

Congrats on sobriety... I have had many alcoholics in my life, from close relatives, to friends, to partners. Some have gotten sober, some haven't (and my brother in law even died from an alcohol/prescription drug combination...) It's a tough habit to kick and some people never can. You should be proud of yourself, particularly that you thought it was nasty and didn't just immediately drink more. Sometimes I cook with wine, and my husband doesn't consider that a slip. (Some of it burns off, but not all!)

I don't think it's a good idea to make drinks for your hubby.
That's just me. If I'm around alcohol I will figure out a way to sneak it.
I can't trust myself 100%

Yeah, dobie, so many people have expressed that concern. I actually bartended for 3 years as a newly sober person. Been pouring the hubby's drinks for 10 years and it hasn't bothered me for the 9 I've been sober. The sight and smell of liquor doesn't trigger me. It's the emotions and the "end of the rope" thinking that scares me. I don't trust myself 100% either - never will!

Many think booze in moderation and under control is just fine.

I'm not sure about the mix or not to mix for the hubby. But for sure congrats on your sobriety!
