O/T WTF is a deviated septum?

My friend says the reason why snot runs down my throat instead of out of my nose is because I have a deviated septum. I know she's not a doctor but this has been happening to me like since I was a kid. I can't blow my nose when I get sick because nothing will come out.

Anyhow the hubby said to fix it it is a cosmetic surgery and insurance won't cover it. Is this true? I really hate the fact that I constantly swallow my own snot. I can't spit it out it just runs down my throat.

Any advice would be welcomed.

Well I think my deviated septum probably happened when I fell off my bike and cracked my head open. I guess my parents must have opted out in fixing it. So I can't get it fixed and have insurance pay for it. This would suck.

i have had mine fixed twice and it was covered by insurance both times....it really does make a difference in your breathing and throat irritation.

I hope you can find out from your primary doctor if it can be covered, because you should have it done!!!!

If not having it done prevents you from breathing correctly it should be covered. . . . .after having cartillage smashed mine was covered
