From other Veterans getting SSD and others like us I would like to see a list of recommendations for those SEEKING TO GET SSD.
THE FOLLOWING IS FROM PERSONAL EXPERIENCE AND OTHER VETERANS i SPEAK WITH ON TIPS FOR GETTING SSD...
1) Get a Lawyer, worth every dime everytime. They collect information and fill your SSD file with tons of paperwork ...WHY you ask...(see # 2)
2) Pretend you are an overworked government employee. Each day a stack of SSD requests gets put on your desk and you have to render a disposition on all of them by the end of the day; meet your quota. Well this folder is thin I can read it and even though I am not a doctor there must not be anythiing wrong since its so thin ...DECLINED
2 B) Now its a thick folder filled with stuff from pros like Dr's and Lawyers... they must be F*d uP APPROVED! I knoww it sounds stupidly simple but it is true which is why most ppl win with a lawyer on appeal.
3) Cry, Swear and forget. When they have you meet with their medical professional for an evaluation do all three. The first thing they do is give you some words to remember and ask you at the end of the conversation. forget over 50% of them even though we all know we are smart enough to remember. Cry and swear to show you are out of control.
There are many more I can add if anyonee is interested I will watchthe post. Feel free to comment from your exxperience in getting SSD too.

Does that really work??? I've been trying to get SSD and have been denied, even with an attorney!! They wanted forms filled out that no one was willing to fill out and so I was denied. I'll take all the advice I can get on this topic!!!

You also need to be able to see your own Doctors. Social Security will always send you to their own that make you seem fine.

Just one doctors support on your side trumps theirs because yours specializes in you and your issue. Always make sure you have your docs support.

Bring up addictions OCD is a common side effect of BP esp. self medication. So is being a little smarter than the average joe a must for showing Grandiose Ideation another affect of the disorder.

So what if I can't get them to work with me?? My pdoc sees me once a month for 15 minutes and he says that he doesn't know me well enough to fill out the paperwork and my tdoc thinks its all for attention. Does the numerous hospitalizations help?? I was hospitalized 3 times in two months for it, twice for a week each and once for 4 days. I guess the only thing to do now is reapply =) gather info first!!

your reapplication counts as an appeal and is retro your first filing. Hosp helps espically paying the $5 to get a copy of YOUR medical records to include in your paperwork... remember fat file.

Sweet!! I'll start there and who knows, I might get somewhere this time! At the moment it's all I can do to swim. I have the crisis line and suicide hotline on speed dial (litterally!!) and I use them ALL THE TIME!! Between the suicidal depressions and psychotic manias I can barely function most of the time... *sigh* I wish life were simpler!! Thanks for the post!! I needed to collect info!! =)

I applied for Disability on September 26th and was approved on October 14th. I never got a lawyer and was interviewed over the phone. They sent a questioneer to my husband asking him about my mental status and anxiety attacks. That was it. I was approved immediately and received a check in the mail. I don't know what I did right, but my Doctors must have had something to do with it. I don't know what they said about me, but I was approved. No visit to a Social Security Doctor or nothing.
