I fired the boob who was my most recent therapist. I made an appointment with a female counselor but canceled because I just couldn't bring myself to tell my story to yet another stranger. The fact is that back in '08 my tdoc at the time (also a woman) actually discharged me and I felt wonderful for a few weeks. Then some religious control freak asked me, "If you think you're healed, why are you still on medication?" So I threw all my meds away and a few days later had a manic psychotic episode I've never really recovered from. My oldest sister witnessed my meltdown, and after a few other problems came up I gave her my POA and she put me in a personal care home. It's hard to think that I was ever well at one time. I write long letters to the caregivers here, and they let Carla (not her real name),the owner, read them. Today Carla and I had a long talk because she'd noticed I seemed very unhappy, but after I opened up to her I felt much better. I'm going to wait until after the holidays (which, like so many here,I find excruciating) and see if I really need any more therapy. The last "T" I had asked to see pictures of my Mom (who died when I was a little girl),then when I showed him some he made remarks about Mom's weight, this despite the fact that he's fat himself. I think that should explain why I'm gun-shy. Anyway thanks so much for listening.

You may recall I write that my sister and he husband were in an affair with my brothers wife. It's been almost a year. Mom last week asked me to invite my sisters boys to a birthday at my house for my brothers daughter. I was on my way to pick up the boys when my mom called and told me to turn around. Apparently my brother didn't know my nephews were coming and he was livid. I came home to a...

Well wishes!
I got tired of the retelling of my sad tale to each new mental health pro (**cough** **cough**) too. So, I prepared a timeline (with narrative where necessary) of all the significant events in my life. I keep it updated and, when dealing with a newbie, I make sure it is in their possession prior to our first meeting. I even call ahead to make sure it has been received and reviewed -- that way we can hit the ground running.
I find sometimes I will be telling my "story" and I sometimes forget really important events (since there are so many.. as we all can understand) and it stresses me out knowing that my therapist doesn't know EVERYTHING.
Such a great idea! May have to steal it.
I agree with what many have said here there does seem to be a lot of idiots who pass themselves off as therapists. What does your Mom's weight have to do with anything! Jeez!!!
You are a tender soul Loddy protect yourself! Tell the new therapist as much that you have been hurt and don't need this junk anymore! What you need is someone who can listen and reflect helpful solutions! Love yourself in the meantime and be kind to yourself!
Hope you get a better one next time
Don't they have reviews to make sure they are doing their job correctly?
Well, bravo to you Loddy for taking a stand. I do hope you find someone that works for you and is not a complete moron.
Good luck to you and big hugs Loddy!!
