Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.

Hello!
I am new here and could really use a friend in the same boat. Im 27 and I was diagnosed with bipolar 2 last September and this is the first support group I've joined. I'm still having a hard time accepting my diagnosis, as in I'm constantly trying new things and expecting a cure only to be disappointed when I remember- duh there isn't one. I don't know one other person friend or family with bipolar and every time I try to talk about it I'm met with mild support and uncomfortable faces. I know they mean well, but it's made me stop talking about it. I feel like it could help to talk to others going through what I am going through. Anyways- I'm a good listener if anyone needs an ear!

Today mom and I are taking Moo and Copper to the vet for vaccines. I'm watching a movie having coffee while copper snoozes in between my knees. What does Thursday look like for you?

Does anyone here have a comfort item you carry with you when you go out? For example this is my doll, Annie, and I've recently been bringing her with me when I run errrands flor have an appointment. Holding her comforts me. I've bought her clothes, crocheted for her, I recently bought a personalized blanket with her name on it. Just wondering if anyone else has a comfort item.

The people I meet who understand the bipolar mindset tend to be artistic types, who prize seclusion. Not exactly the networking crowd. What's worse is that I live in a small town that is a 1 hour drive from any city, so I feel extra secluded. My friends, the ones I have managed to hold on to, have grown up and don't want to hear about my problems.
It's strange but I miss the mania sometimes even if it did push me to psychosis, I miss the magical feeling that the whole world is shiny and alive--full of hidden messages.
I’ve found this site to be very supportive. I have several family member who have bipolar and my mother suffered depression for years so I have people who understand.
It’s hard when your loved ones don’t understand what you are going through. Sometimes they just don’t know what you need. And sometimes you don’t even know what you need
First of all no one should be ashamed of having this dx. I believe it's something you were born with and caused by how your brain functions. I work in a physician's office in a non-medical position and have witnessed a bipolar patient. He was being seen for a totally different reason. I later was told he forgot to take his medication. He became outraged on a visit and caused a seen but then was super nice the following visit and even apologized for his actions. Honestly, sometime I feel I may have a touch of it. If you don't mind my asking how do they determine you have it?
@Supercoolcat, I'll PM you.
