My 9 year old refused to go to school this morning. He is being teased and harassed daily by his schoolmates. He has bipolar disorder and ADHD. He is also a very smart kid. So he is different, and this has made him a target. The school said they were watching things after a kid pushed hm down on the playground several months ago. But apparently the problems have not stopped.
So I called the school. They said the principal would call me. I waited an hour and a half. I called back and talked to the vice-principal. She seemed concerned but also implied that they could do nothing if they did not know there was a problem. So what about the shoving incident? What about watching the situation?
I am so mad and frustrated. We have an appointment to see the social worker at the school in about 20 minutes. No one even let my son know there was someone he could talk to about this. How have they let him slip through the cracks? I am one mad momma.
Do any of you have children facing bullying in school because they are "different"? Anybody out there have any advice?
I also set up a counseling appointment with a new counselor for him. His old counselor would not let him play and talk. He has trouble talking about important or sensitive things unless he has something to keep his hands busy. That is just his communication style. So we will try this new counselor, recommended by a friend, and see how it goes. His appointment is next Thursday.
In the meantime, how do I force my small son to go to school if this keeps happening?
Keep him in your prayers. And help me through this. I need some support here.

Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.
Anyway - it worked really well, within a couple of hours they had it all sorted.
My husband looks like a mob boss with a stern unyielding gaze and he is very smart and talks like a lawyer, so I think I just got lucky on that account.
I was bullied for being 'weird' almost every academic year of my life. College was a relief. My daughter was bullied and I had to put her in private school for awhile before we moved. She is an Aspergers girl.
Best of luck - these type of issues are so hard to resolve. **hugs**
There are awesome anti-bully programs - where kids make friends and learn tools, sorta the nerds get strong and take over *BIg Grin* see if there are any of these programs around, could help....
Wishing you strength and wisdom during this rough time! For me isolating at 50 sucks, I would be leery of teaching a 9 year old to isolate, is such a hard thing to fight as an adult!

I am putting in a TRANSFER if I can for my son. The school that he attends is horrendous.
I'd like to do some karate classes for him if the husband will allow me.
