Mother's day is no big deal. My birthday is in April, we celebrate that and skip Mother's Day. Hubby's birthday is in July so we do presents for fathers day and only dinner in July if we are lucky
If the husband and kids have plans for me they haven't mentioned them. Husband is going to go see his Mom up in Seattle for a day or so.
I bought myself some serious cool gear on eBay. A Victorian Steampunk jacket (I live in the rainforest so I collect awesome hoodies and jackets since I'm wearing one 98% of the time...) a pair of leather Merrell shoes for church and a baggy crocheted cap. I'm pretty excited. My husband wanted to get me new technology (he's a tech) and was a little dumbfounded I wanted clothes. lolz
(((GROUP HUG)))
BTW, our Golden Corral closed down because it was so nasty.
And, my mom too is located in the cemetery. How I wish that were not true.
Happy Mother's Day to All.
I'm not sure if she really doesn't want to speak to me or if she's being "managed" by her husband. He told me she was home but busy with a therapist (blood cancer I just heard) but to call back in an hour. I asked him if she'd talk to me and he said "sure".
I called back in an hour and got the machine and left a message. Called again that night and got the machine again. Left a message with my contact info wished her a happy birthday and told her I loved her. No call yet.
I don't want her to feel I'm harassing her and said so in my last message but I'm thinking I should try to call again Sunday. I made a promise on my birthday at the beginning of the year that I would reconnect with family.
My sister's a mother too so I'll call her today or tomorrow and wish her a happy mother's day. Maybe she can shed some light on this sad little black sheep and the family dynamic. It's not like I kicked the fence down when I wandered away all those years ago.
I think my mother's ashamed of me. Maybe talking to my sister about all this so close to mother's day is not a good idea. I've bought a set of cards with totems and ceremonial masks on black background. The kind of cards that are blank on the inside.
I have one for each of my immediate family. I want to send them each a personal short letter. I don't have their addresses and I don't want to upset any of them by asking.
Mother's day used to be a big thing. We kids, she had five boys and a daughter (the youngest) and our dad taught us this was more important than Christmas. A time to pamper and entertain the person who does so much for, and puts up with so much from what she (sometimes jokingly but mostly seriously) called her litter of Banshies.
Now I just want to reconnect with my mother before it's too late. My therapist says it's great for me to do the reaching out to family as it seems they have not contacted me once in the 20 years I've been in one city and with the same contact info.
Sometimes I feel like such a pariah. I mean the rest of the world can take me or leave me. I just thought family was always family even if a member wanted to put some distance between it all. Seems the only members who really got me and we could relate on a "more than family" level were the first to put that "permanent" distance away from us all.
I'm going to remain optimistic and try still. I did give myself the year to reestablish ties. Is it really a bad thing to bring this up with my sister at this time? I mean this is "her" day too and she has her own family.
This is the most I have ever thought...really thought...about Mother's day and not what it means to mothers but what it means to someone who misses their mother.
Sorry about the long post...touchy subject. Not sure what to do. Just know I'm not get'n drunk this mother's day is all...which was, for some years, my preferred salute to the one who gave me life and love and courage to "just do it".
On Sunday, I will drive out to see my Mom, who lives at a Skilled Nursing home , and is unable to travel.
