I have similar short-term memory problems, my pdoc said that may come with the medication side-effects.

I walk into a room, forget why I wanted to go there, walk away, and remember, walk BACK into the room and forget again. It's terribly annoying. My husband is always telling me stories about situations I was IN that I have no memory of. I'll drive my son to school and upon getting there, I can't remember HOW we got there. Did we take the highway or the back roads? I've started writing things down to remember and then forgetting where I put the piece of paper. And it's terribly difficult watching TV unless there are no other distractions - other wise I lose the plot. That's probably the worst that it gets (or maybe I'm forgetting other incidents! LOL!).

I sort of take it in stride and attribute my memory loss to both meds and my age (I'm 40). The funny thing is, I can remember things like the phone number of my best friend from grammar school, but I can't remember my mother's current phone number. ARGH!

hi, I think people have found issues with lamotrigine and memory loss but I think if you've been on it for 7 years and it hasn't been a problem but you've just changed another med I think that's more likely to be the cause? Possibly it's something od like coming off the anti-psychotic is triggering the memory loss effect of lamotrigine.

I'd talk to your doctor if you are concerned - how long has this been going on?

I have the same problem but with no drugs to blame for it. At one point i was worried it was early, early, early onset Alzheimer's. It is pretty scary having chunks of memory disappear. It used to be just my long term memory and tdoc and I thought maybe i was just blocking stuff but then it started taking over my short-term memory.

I am currently having problems reading books. I used too read voraciously but I've been unable to retain the previous chapter or pages. I keep going back to reread and I've just given up for right now.

I have it really bad... It's embarrassing.. I ask the same questions repeatedly not remembering that I already have asked

My pdoc said once that I'm unaware... I know that benzo's have been a big culprit and probably depression... Not sure about the other meds..sigh.. It sux

I have memory loss all the time. The older I get, the worse it gets.

I've always been very absent-minded. I think my brain circuits are overloaded from being overwhelmed for most of my life. I was to caught up in survival.

I worry about this all the time. I write things down a lot because I'm so absent minded I can't trust my memory. My mother had Alzheimer's and I'm worried I might end up like her. It was horrible seeing her in a nursing home and she didn't know who her own children were. Very scary!

Thank you all for your responses. To acuriousfish: I've been having this problem since December last year. I'm starting to get pretty scared. Today my mom told me that I showed her a picture that my aunt texted me. I could not remember that at all. I can't even remember seeing the picture myself.

There is a history of dementia on my mom's side. I'm 30 years old & actually I don't really know how early memory loss from dementia can start. My pharmacist told me that only .5-1% of people taking Lamictal will actually get memory loss but it definitely is a cause for concern. I'll see my pdoc soon. It most likely is med related but of course I'm not entirely sure. It's confusing.

I can remember high brow words such as Machiavellian and Schadenfreude but once forgot pillow and wardrobe when trying to describe them.

My memory has gotten scary worse in just the last few months.I do everything everyone else has said and love to read and had to just give it a rest for awhile bc I would have to re-read the paragraph I just read. My spelling is pathetic.I also take Lamactil for the past almost 8 yrs. but I attribute mine more to the benzo's and just not being mindful enough. my mother tells me things and then I have no idea when she brings the subject back up what the heck she's talking about and she has to remind me. My scariest moment was awhile back and I was looking in all my dresser drawers for a pair of yoga pants and looked in the laundry everywhere and then looked down and I was WEARING them!!

I have an appt. with my pdoc on Thurs. and am definitely bringing this up. I wouldn't worry too much about the driving I think the majority of people do this get places and don't remember how they got there. I've always done that a lot bc driving puts me into a kind of meditative state and it's usually only in places I go to a lot of times so it's kind of rote.

I agree talk to your doctor. It sounds like going off the antipsychotic is what did it.

I'm also on lamictal but I'm on saphris as well and I don't have problems with memory loss that's noticeable. But every one is different and Meds can have strange side effects on different people.

OMG!!!! That is me to a T!! I have no short term memory. Example..... I put my wallet down and immediately forget where I set it. I have to write all of my user names and passwords down as I make them bcuz I forget them immediately. So believe me when I tell you that you are definitely not alone.

Yes, I've been having some memory issues. I get memories confused with other ones. I've had memory lapses. This doesn't seem to unusual when on meds.
