I went through a very bad relationship for a year, it ended a year ago. It took me a good 6-8 months to get over the trauma of the abuse.
Then I run into my abuser on the street, he came up to me and asked how I'd been doing. I was shocked to see him and stumbled over my answers. After he left I thought of all the damage he did to me mentally and emotionally, and everything I worked so hard to forget came rushing back to me.
Now I am suffering with the same thoughts I had a year ago, and am wishing on one hand that I'd told him off, but on the other I'm glad that I acted like nothing happened. But I'm still stuck with the horrible memories and feel almost as sick as I did while it was happening.
How can I get these thoughts out of my head. I really hate what he got away with.

Here is my new brother, copper :) He's so tiny! Moo and Tuck were ok with him on first meeting. Rocket due to his severe aggression will never meet Cooper.

So long as his discussion was nothing more than basic, "hi, how are things?" kind of awkward chit-chat, I think that things went as best as they could. These moments will happen in every former relationship, but if it was somehow abusive, it's important to distinguish the banal conversation from potential reengaging of how things were at their worst.
Just remember that you've gotten over your past with him for the most part. You're better off now than you were and so long as he knows this(because you've made it clear), he should back off from any aggressive behavoir, unless he's completely evil.
NOTE: My bedtime benzos just kicked in so this post got kind of fuzzy half-way through. Hopefully you got my point which was: stay strong, don't be overly aggressive if his intentions appear to be innocent, and revert to the techniques which first allowed you to overcome whatever traumas you were experiencing and have recently resurfaced.
The great thing is that you walked away. Sometimes that is best for us and sometimes all we can do is just walk away.
