Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.
You have to be careful about carbs, too. White things -- rice, pasta, bread, potatoes. They turn to sugar, when you eat them. Hold a saltine cracker in your mouth until it melts. It will start to taste sweet, as it turns to sugar.
Here are some low sugar snacks:
graham crackers (I like the honey or the cinnamon)
herbal teas -- fruit chips in them make them sweet, but no sugar
angel food cake with fruit on top
sugarfree snacks (got to be careful of these because of carbs)
Splenda -- for my tea and for baking.
melons that are very ripe
Once you get used to it, you won't even miss the sugar. Another trick is to eat something sour to curb the craving.
I wish you luck.
You should get bonus points!!!!!
Fresh or canned fruit is great for when you want a sugar hit and will keep you going as well.
Herbal teas with honey.
You can make oat bars out of oats, egg whites, honey and dried fruits and they're a good source of natural sugars and fiber.
Be careful when eating the Weight Watchers meals cause they can contain a lot more sugar and sodium than you're aware of.
You're much better off eating an orange or a grapefruit than you are drinking the juice. My mother's Diabetic and the dietitian told her that drinking a glass of orange juice is like eating 6 oranges, sugar-wise.
I wouldn't even eat the rice cakes, much less the caramel ones!! I stay away from refined things and from simple starches. Your body breaks simple starches down into sugar very easily, which can spike your blood sugar.
Actually, if you keep eating small bits of sugar to your diet, you'll probably keep craving it. If you can cut sweets out of your diet, you'll eventually quit craving them. But you have to go through a few weeks of withdrawal Hell to get to that point.
Good luck! You seem like you're watching your diet pretty good!!! If you're having a caramel rice cake and a squirt of whipping cream and you see that you're losing weight, then it's probably fine for you to do!!
I think there's also sugar free icecream. I haven't found it at my grocery store but my daughter said there is such a thing.
Hope this helps.
My three year old niece and I dance a couple hours a day. Just when I think I am going to have a heart attack, she will say, "Come shake with me, Aunt Pam!!!"
Come shake with us, Princess. Adding movment to your diet, the pounds will come off like "magic".
