I don't know if there is a most important quality for each quality is intertwined and builds of the others. Attraction leads to closeness and then intimacy. Without intimacy you couldn't truly know that person and develop trust. Without trust how could there be acceptance. Without acceptance how could there be forgiveness. Without forgiveness how can you develop loyalty. I just don't see one quality really above the others because without each one i think it all falls apart.

Consistent, as close to unconditional as possible, but most of all, honest (but caring) communication. Caring enough about your sig other to be honest takes a lot of courage, but after 17 years, it's worth it every day.

I am with PD in acceptance either that or understanding. I would love it to be unconditional love but just like being truly altrulistic that one is in my eyes unattainable for humans. Because we are humans I tend to think that other things, total trust, faith and the likes are also going to fall short at some point along the way so that leaves you with either just being able to accept the situation and your partner or understand and be able to move on.

Trust would be the most important trait/quality of love for me... hard to achieve though...

The trouble with unconditional love is vulnerability to attack due to zero ground rules.

And forgiveness is worthless if one doesn't honestly forget the offence. Otherwise they're just collecting stamps. And i Think we all know who gets hit with the book once it's filled.

I feel that honesty and trust are opposing ends of the same virtue. Without the honesty it's simply blind faith. And jealousy has no place in an intimate relationship, as it's a hate based emotion.

So, i strongly agree with mermaid. Your love for the other needs to be based on unconditional acceptance of their persona with No preconceptions/hidden agendas of turning them into a Potato Head doll. If your in the market for love, shop for the exact make/model you intend to grow old with. And not one you plan on upgrading/remodeling to your standards. Don't buy the Lamborghini Murcielago if your a Miata-be-a-car-but-ain't person.

I believe balance and open communication are instrumental to loves longevity and success. My 2 pence worth.
