Oh I'm soooo sorry! Not everybody feels this way, but losing a pet is losing a member of your family -- we grieve the same, feel loss the same, cry the same. It's terrible that we live so much longer than our sweet compassionate (furry) friends. My thoughts are with you, Dee. I still visit our pet cemetery at least once a week and think about my love for each of our losses. Big hugs!

My mom and I had to put her only dog to sleep a year ago because she was suffering from sudden stomach failure and a lung infection. It was the first time we ever went through that process, and it made us feel terrible. I never thought it was possible for me to cry so much -- for hours and hours. I can't even explain why I was bawling so hard -- just a huge piece of our lives that had to be taken away, and that we couldn't save her from the pain or the inevitable. She was like a sister who watched over my mom and kept her company every day. We get these short periods of time together in life, and our pets give us such wonderful companionship and grounding. I do think they understand and appreciate the love we have for them. I'm sorry for your loss.

I'm so sorry, Dee. Losing them is never easy and when it's your "heart pet" it's especially hard. I think I am still getting over my Josie and she died in 2006... we never forget them! lots of love to you

I am so sorry that you lost such a love one. It is painful when our pets pass away, especially when it is a painful passing. I have three dogs and my avatar is my past three dogs.

So sorry for your loss it's a hard one I'm still struggling with the loss of my beloved Roxy and it's been almost a year. But it does get easier and wife will go on. Hugs!

Don't be so hard on yourself. Losing a pet is a very difficult thing. It is not your fault. We don't have control over dying. I lost my dog several years ago, she had cancer, and we had to have her put to sleep. It was awful. Felt guilty too for putting her to sleep, but she was incontinent and in a lot of pain. It is so hard. Read the pain the rainbow bridge, it is a very good poem. I can't remember who wrote it, but our vet sent us a sympathy card, and it had the poem on it.
