Of course, I support anything that can help bring down Kony; but I saw a doc on him years ago and am scared to watch this.

I also will look into how well the charities handle the money. this is a common problem with charities-- I think that with Cancer and AIDS this became an issue too. The whole "fundraising, Inc" problem. I know that Red Cross & United Way has had some fundraising/finance scandals so it's not unusual.

Hopefully, that won't obscure the issue becuase it's very sad.

I think the point is to start educating the world about these kind of guerilla child snatchers, as this is not the first time this has happened in Africa. The more publicity I would hope the less inclined the next megalomanic would be inclined to start this kind of thing for fear of not just world opinion but armies from other countries coming in after them.

I read all the links which Fish posted, and I have to agree that something is not right with the organization. My thought was a young film maker trying to make a splash in the business, but with that kind of money coming in, he really doesn't need to make it in the documentary field producing business.

Like Zsa, I heard in Canada several million dollars were collected for the Canadian Red Cross for the Thai Tsunami in 2004. Almost none of that money found its way to the victims to help them rebuild. I have no idea what the stats are for the Japanese earthquake and Tsumami, but I am very fussy about where I send my charitable donations these days.

But one other really good thing that came out of it, was my enraged daughter phoned me up for posting on FB and yelled at me about a serious local issue involving children, and asked me what I was doing to help that situation. She was right, and I am going to be finding ways to help these kids who are in situations almost as horrific as described in the video in my own backyard.

Being aware can never be harmful. But that does include being wise about how to best help in situations, and whether the money is actually being used to the purpose intended.

Yes, it's horrific this occurs throughout the world. Opening up dialogue and awareness can be done in a more productive way than to insult people.
