Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.
I don't know if there's a correlation between the 2. Gotta make you wonder though.
But, as for my aunt with BP, I can't picture her doing drugs like that. But then I don't know everything about her. I know my mom smoked pot a few times and she talked about abuse in her family but wasn't clear about it. Now she doesn't remember even who I am. Damn.
what came first, chicken or egg?
i think we self medicate and where the use of illicit drugs and alcohol may worsen mental conditions. i do believe there has to be a genetic disposition or some kind of susceptibility to begin with???
Then a lifetime of pot - 12yrs
coc -10yrs
ex - 5yrs.
Been sober for 2 & a half years.
By the way I really like Tim Burton. Jack rocks. :)
I've done a lot of drugs and, while I don't think they help mental health issues just as alcohol doesn't help, but I don't think they cause MI, I think there are far too many contributing factors for such a simple rationale.
I have done pot, coke, meth and I like prescription pain killers. I have a VERY addictive personality... So I have to really be carefull about what I take and how long I take something.
Having said that, I have been "clean" for 5 years now. I put clean in the "" because I did have a two month stent where I was taking Vicodin and Percocet for a knee injury and it started to become a problem. But Now I am only on the Tegretol, Lexapro and Klonopin A.K.A my Sainty drugs!
One thing I'm glad of is that I didn't surrender to the fact that I suffer from mental illness and thus seek psychiatric treatment until a couple of years after I got sober. I was so toasted on booze by the end and so fragile, if prescription drugs had been in the mix I would have been a gonner. And while I didn't use the harder drugs, I was drinking in skuzzy bars with alcoholics, drug addicts and drug dealers and I was just a whisker off just diving right in and it would have been the needle and it would ave been the end of me. I have no doubt - and of course - it's still a YET.
