I've recently been diagnosed, but really want to improve my current social situation, having decided to cut off the people who are having a negative effect on my situation.

I have no problems socialising when I'm up, but when I'm feeling normal I'm aprehensive about what they might think of me when they realise I'm moody and obnoxious, and when I'm down I just shut everything else out- my social skills go right out the window. But I really want to have some sort of social life.

I'd be interested to know from anyone out there who has any experience or views on telling people that you are bipolar- i.e. when and how to do it.
I think the casual approach is best, but only with the right people.

I'd also like to hear from people holding down demanding jobs with BP- can it be done? Or am I asking for trouble by pursuing a demanding career? Perhaps you can suggest careers that are well suited to people with BP (ie ones where its possible to take career breaks etc.)
