Bipolar Disorder Support Group

This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.
As much as you want to hide it, in the end, you will have a much better raport with everyone if you keep on the up and up. Self injury is not anything like anger, which can transfer from targeting yourself to targeting others....people who self injure are usually actually avoiding hurting someone else they are mad at. So if your Dr. knows his/her stuff, they should be aware of this...are you seeing a therapist also?? If so your therapist should be able to vouch for you to.
It is not likely you would lose custody just because of SI. Lots of mothers have problems that are harmful to themselves -- eating disorders are a form of self harm with potential fatal results, too.
Do what you would want your child to do if they were in the same situation you are in right now - that is what is most important other than getting help for yourself. Bear in mind, you are modeling for your child right now how to handle circumstances they may well have to face one day, also.
Please let us know how things turn out.
