I've wanted to but the only way you can get in through my HMO is to be suicidal and turn yourself in to the ER. They want you to go outpatient - they call it "intensive outpatient". Haven't been hospitalized since I was a child/teen but there's been many times I've needed it without being suicidal. I think if you are considering it, do it...if you think you can get the help you need. Very best wishes.

I kinda want to be hospitalized sometimes. Like now. I'm hypo and I know it's going nowhere good very fast but I've heard horror stories about the mental facilities here which is sad and depressing so... I hope I never need it.

I think the intensive outpatient blessedgirl mentioned is better.

You never know how your hospitalization is going to go since it depends a lot on how well you get on with the other patients in there. You have roommates, you eat sleep and do lots of therapeutic programs with them all. Plus every hospital is different.

I've been admitted to a mental health ward for a couple of weeks when in a depression twice and it made a huge difference to me fairly quickly.. Both times were good experiences... You get out of it what you put into it but if your doctor is recommending it I would say to maybe give it a chance?.... I hope you feel better soon....x

I was hospitalized three times at the same institution. Once was involuntary. Once was really helpful and did help me crawl out from under a bad depression. There were new nurses and doctors each time I went. There were some of the same people. The last time I was hospitalized for an o/d and injury, they kept me off of the psych ward but kept asking me if I wanted to go. The help of just being cared for was all the stress relief I needed.

I always admitted involuntary. The visits did help me become more stable in those moments.
