bobbie, my bf and chuggs do have a windows disc, but i WILL NOT allow anyone else to touch it until a professional looks at it. I feel now that neither of them know what and how to do it. as i said, i want to make sure nothing is lost. He did this while I was at work. He did this after i told him NOT to touch it. When my bf came home he was sitting on the couch away from my computer he did inform my bf of some of the shit he did to my computer. the fact is he was told not to touch it because i was getting the sound fixed for free. Chuggs, i'm sorry but yes u are very stubborn but also you do not know everything and can't fix everything. something you need to learn to control. I know I'm not perfect either, I know I make mistakes, but when it comes to something as expensive as a computer when I don't have mommy and daddy paying or helping me in my life, and I have to do this shit on my own,(my bf does help a lot), but i struggle to make ends meet. and after supporting you the first 4 months u were here it really put a strain on not only our friendship/relationship but also my bank account.. I could go into more, but i won't. I'm not saying this to hurt u in anyway. i do understand u were trying to help, but when i say not to touch something in my home, don't do it.please respect me and my things and my emotions. I'm hurt now, and as always i know this will blow off sooner or later. but for now i need my space. you know when and what time i'm bringing my computer in, but until then i need space. daisy

I agree with where you're coming from 100%, I'd seriously have a problem with a friend messing with my stuff, especially my laptop if they were specifically asked not to. I think you are in the every bit in the right in this situation. I hope it ends well and he pays the bill and your computer gets repaired to it's previous state.

My boyfriend did something similar and his dad was really upset, because there were a lot of pictures that got lost in that restart...but these things happen from time to time. I know you feel like an idiot right now, but pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease be kind to yourself. It wasn't intentional. And any anger flying around you damn well know will subside.

Please keep in mind, his intention was to fix it for you and surprise you. He's a very computer literate guy.
He was wrong because you specifically told him not to touch it.
Also, sounds like there are superfluous issues getting caught in the mix.

I can see wanting to be helpful, and trying to fix the problem. There were good thoughts behind it. No you are not a f'ing idiot, you are a good and caring friend, your heart was in the right place. I am sorry the outcome was not what you desired.

Keeping that in mind, I do have to side with Daisy on this simply because she did ask you not to touch the computer, and she was going to take it in to be repaired.

Belinda, I'm not asking for sides. Yes Bobby's right that I am pretty computer literate, but in the end I fucked it all up. Yes my intentions were good, as they say "The road to hell is paved with good intentions." This isn't about siphoning pity from others as much as as a total admittance to my wrong doing.

I don't know where you live, but there must be somewhere you could take the computer to get some professional help with retrieving the information. I know the basics and I also know that when you have valuable information such as pictures that can not be replaced that we need to do backups. I would probably be upset, but I am sure that he had good intentions.

I do shit like this all the time. I feel for you. Haven't a clue as to what to say, but I feel for you.

ok, this is my last post on this topic. u can all get pissy with me i don't care. I did say in my post i know he was just trying to help.... BUT I TOLD HIM COUNTLESS TIMES NOT TO WORRY ABOUT IT, DO NOT TOUCH IT AND LEAVE IT ALONE. HIS GF ON THE PHONE EVEN HEARD IT. I'm hurt, i'm pissed and if my files are lost then that will be even more heartbreaking. yes chuggs, u do know some things about computers, but not everything. point taken in this situation. now tell me, how would some of u fell??? tell me u guys wouldn't be pissed when u told someone not to touch something but did and ruined it. uh???? i have every right to feel the way i do. so piss off

I have gotten my computer back today. yes, chuggs paid for it. after we had it out at 9 am in the middle of main st. I'm very hurt as the computer tech said he did retrieve my pictures and come to find out no pictures are there. all that was really saved was my class files. I have lost all pictures of people that have passed away. no more memories of them. my adobe software from school, which was 400 dollars, has to be reinstalled. hopefully that can be done twice otherwise i have to reorder that again too. I will again have to go talk to my tech guy tomorrow and see if he does have my picture files. everything on my computer has to be reinstalled and redone to how i had it before. it will take a few days to get thing the way i had it. The computer tech may have got it fixed and working but now it is up to me to get it how i had it before. I have lost all but my school work. I have learned now to make sure everything is backed up on a jump drive, not to let anyone but me to touch my computer and or property. I know no one is perfect even though they think they may be. No one is the jack of all trades even though they claim to be. life is hard and proof is in the performance. and also that actions speak louder than words. I am reminded through out this post that his intentions were good, I keep reminding people that I specifically said not to touch my computer. I'm not asking to take sides, i don't want that, i don't care about that. But chuggs needs to understand one thing, it's not all about him or me or n e one here. The bigger picture is this was not the place to air our dirty laundry. there are things i could say, which i have in my journal that is only private to my friends. but still, i do understand he wanted support too. but i have lost all the memories i have of the people that have passed away in my life in the past two years. something i can't get back now. I can replace my school work as they are in my class, i can replace my music, i can replace any programs that i had installed, but the loved ones, and all the art I have that are gone and traveled around the world...all gone. All the art would've been nice to put in my portfolio for a future career. art that I no longer have.
