Husband trying to diagnose me

Its frustrating because my husband kept telling me I have something other than bipolar. He believes that I also had borderline personality disorder. I discussed it with my psychiatrist and he says that there is so much overlap between bipolar and BPD and it is dangerous for people to do research without the proper training. He absolutely sure I only have bipolar 2 and he almost laughed when I told him my husbansd is convinced I have BPD in addition to the bipolar 2. I haven't shared this with my husband, who barely talks to me now. Its hard on me because he has me convinced I had BPD and it turned out I was upset over nothing. On the flip side I am doing well on my meds and haven't had a depressive episode since the first of the year.

I went through quite allot of years of asking my husband to let me trust my therapy network while I pointedly ignored his expert opinions and put my trust in said therapy network. It was a happy, happy evolution when he finally stopped playing therapist and learned how to listen like a lover.

You really need to tell your husband to stick to being a spouse and let your Pdoc be your Pdoc. If he doesn't want to hear it from you, take him to a Session and let your Pdoc tell him.

Borderline is one of those things that even psychiatrist's struggle with. However I have seen stuff that shows how they can be distinguished and it sounds as if your psychiatrist has done that and in your case it's sufficiently clear cut to make a determination.

Not sure what advice I'd give - it's disappointing that he's not talking to you.

Thanks everyone! I think if he continues to bug me about BPD I will definitely take him to my pdoc so he could hear it from him. I'm hanging in there!
