How to explain to DH that I am fine.....

My husband wants to adopt my daughter because he's worried that somewhere down the line that I am going to commit suicide because I am bipolar. Right now I am currently stable on meds. I tried to explain to him that you can treat manic depression with meds and a psychiatrist and become stable on meds for a long time before ever experiencing a relapse.....now my husband is upset because his ex wife said if he adopts my daughter then she will take him to court for more money. She just wants to be a bitch because my step daughter complained to her and told her that she didn't want my DH to adopt my child because she is paranoid that if he adopts her that he will love her less.......The divorce really fu*Ked up my step daughter's emotions because she is afraid of herself all of the time.....My DH doesn't want to put her on any kinds of meds because he's in denial and he thinks she's fine. How should I tell my husband not to worry....it's driving me nuts that he's paranoid over nothing.

I don't think that his ex would get anything out of taking him to court. Just b/c he takes on another child does not mean that the ex is entitled to any more than she receives.

Your step-daughter will have a sister...look at the positives. Maybe they'll get along well, and there will be no "Daddy loves me more".

Of course, if you're trying to avoid your hubby adopting your child, then ignore everything that I just posted. It's your choice.

Yes, Hana points out that it is unclear if you want him to or don't want him to adopt her.
I think it is wonderful that he loves her that much that he wants to make it official.

As far as his other daughter goes, perhaps family therapy.

He currently pays only a hundred or two. The court went easy on him because his ex wife didn't show up to the support hearing. I bet if she shows up to this one she could get more money. It doesn't bother me if he adopts Athena or not. I took my childs father to court and he's supposed to pay support but he doesn't and the court put him in contempt. The adoption process is going slow anyways....because we have to get a private eye because my daughter's father refuses to give me his address so I can have the lawyer send him the papers. If his ex takes him to the domestic relations office and wins her case then we will loose our house and I will end up loosing my marriage.

Do what is best for the child and everyone else be damned. That is really the wrong reason to adopt, having adopted myself they will ask him in court why he wants to adopt.

They will also give him a psych evaluation.

Maybe a guardianship will work. I don't know much about these things. Just a thought.

If he thinks of himself as her father, then you would think that he would want to make sure she was taken care of especially in the worst of circumstances. His ex can only take him back to court every certain time frame, and just because she does dos NOT mean she is getting more money. Go talk to an atty, most of them will give free consult. As far as notifying the father of the adoption, my husband adopted my son and all we had to do was put a notice in the local paper of intent to adopt. The courts in Ohio say that is notification if you cannot find the absent parent. Good Luck

    My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper?
