OK, I looked this up on the Net recently and just drilled in and drilled in until I could find a proper picture. The beginning of the rash is VERY unique and doesn't sound like what you've got. It's like a target circle with a spot in the middle. I could see clearly that it was like that as the patient had several of those on their arm. When the rash is advanced it's much more overwhelming than that, as you probably know.

Can I ask you to PLEEEEEEASE not stop your Lamictal immediately without medical or psychiatric care. If you are really concerned, go to the ER. I did this a while ago as I had the same concerns as yours. Because it's such a unique condition, they'll probably look at you blankly, but sit tight and don't move until they have found out what to look for and have absolutaly excluded te potential for SJS. Tell them that Steven Johnson Syndrome is serious and can be fatal, but at the same time you can't go off Lamictal immediately as it is a high octane psychiatric drug and there could be many difficulties with rapid detox -both medical and psychiatric. Put the responsibility on THEM and don't leave until you get a rpoper answer.

I hope you go OK, as I said I had the same concerns but remember it is massively rare.

yeah I heard this thing was deadly too go to the ER right away

I'm on lamictal too and I just read the warning it says to get help immediately if you develop any kind of rash!

l just started lamictal and my Dr told me if a rash shows its the ER straight away no waiting this could be deadly please but don't stop your meds chances are its not the deadly kind and take your meds with you but go now.

Firstly don't panic, Lamictal is well known for causing rashes but only 2 in a 1000 go on to be dangerous in some way, and the odds of developing Steven Johnson Syndrome are even lower. That having said it is still a possibilty, so you should go to your go first thing and get it checked out. Chances are it's nothing to worry about and will probably go away in a short while.

However, if the rash spreads above neck level, and in particular appears around your mouth, nose or eyes then stop taking the drug immediately and get down to the er if your go isn't open to get it checked out.

But the main thing to remember is rashes are very common with Lamictal so please don't worry, just be sensible and keep an eye on it.

You don't need to stop everything you are doing and go to the ER on an ambulance. Make an appointment and tell them, they will speed things up if they know what they are doing.

My rash wasn't yellow enough? I put things off for months because I was in a suicidal mood. Stevens-Johnsons Syndrome becomes the Flesh Eating Disease which kills you in an awful way by eating away at your skin and is antibiotic resistant.

Mine started at the elbow joints but can appear pretty much anywhere. You can see your md and explain what's happening. They will put you on steroids to clear the rash up. You must stop taking Lamictal and you can never take it again.

Only turns into syndrome after prolong exposure of drug without medical help. Don't worry but see your md soon.

Be safe and go to the ER.The worst thing that will happen that way is that you will be sent home.

Kiss the medication goodbye. I loved Lamictal and it did me right until the damn rash showed up. Now my chart states I am forever allergic to Lamictal.

Thank you all for your replies! I put lotion on and took some Benadryl. It's still a bit red, but not as flaky and horrible looking. They are three small spots, and they don't look as bad now. So I'm not as worried. I will call my doctors office on Monday. I'm going to take the safe route and not take it until told differently from a doctor.

As for the people saying for me to go to the ER. The ER's around here don't do shit. I had a super panic attack and they had me sit there for 4 hours just to tell me to breathe in a paper bag. Assholes. But yeah, I don't go to the ER unless I'm in super bad pain or I broke/ cut something. Or have a panic attack and think I'm having a heart attack. Which was valid at the time because I have a blood clot.

It's nice to know that stupid medical staff are anywhere and everywhere.

I would go to the ER and have them look at it. better to be safe than sorry. And we can't tell over the internet you know? So go to the ER.
