Cry
Hi so my name is Cry. Anyway so I'm dating someone who has bipolar but I don't even know where to begin. He has such a dark past. I don't know what to do, can someone help me understand how to help him when he goes into a destructive state? I just need to know facts on bipolar and how to deal with it when it's draining my own energy to help care for him... Anyway thanks!

I find myself going places in the car and not wanting to get out of the car. I come back home and I don't want to get out of the car. I think it's the only time I spend reflecting. Chronic tiredness from Long Covid plus the immunosupressing meds for my Crohn's is slowing me down but everything just seems a massive effort. I am dealing with the paperwork following my father's death but it's not...

Wow, it's the middle of the week already!Today is our 11 year anniversary, so we're going out to a nice dinner. I'm losing a lot of sleep these days, hence a wonky schedule and uncomfortable feelings. But I know it will pass, eventually.I hope all of you have a peaceful day, and may good things come your way!

I could be wrong, here, and I welcome correction

But importantly, as we are all individuals we are also all different - both in presentation of the disorder and if/how we treat it (because actually the main person doing the treatment is ourselves, not a doctor). On top of bipolar behaviour is driven by a number of other things, our pasts, any other disorder we might have etc etc. We don't know him so it's hard to give you advice. If he's not on meds and won't go on meds - ask yourself is this something I want to be dealing with in 5, 10, 15 years time?
We have a board for families & friends of bipolar here

It doesn't other than to provide an additional possible stress trigger.
It's highly likely therefore apart from major PTSD he has other major issues - possibly personality disorders. Does he have other diagnoses?
Probably bipolar (if that wasn't a misdiagnosis given his previous trauma) is the least of his behavioural drivers.
I said before we are all individuals - he's got even more to contend with.
Is he getting therapy? Other than that I can't suggest anything.
Let's turn this around.
Would you prefer if he has some issue with you that he talks it over with you - or ask a bunch of strangers who won't have probably shared the same experiences as him and go with what they say?
If you can't for whatever reasons have conversations like that with him to understand his needs then the relationship is doomed.
Equally we have no idea what your mental state or resources to tell you whether you should continue or back away.
