Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.
Yes, I have. The solution is a little different for everyone, and it's a hard road until you find what works for you. However, stability is possible. In most cases, it's a combination of medications and therapy, plus a healthy lifestyle (good diet, exercise, support system, etc..)
That formula has worked well for me. I was diagnosed later in life (in my 30s), after an antidepressant triggered rapid cycling. It took three long and difficult years for me to find the right combination of medications and therapy. However, I've now been stable for 14 years.
I don't know your story, and hopefully you will share a bit with us. No matter what you're going through, I encourage you not to give up. I felt like things would never get better during those tough years, but they ultimately did. I hope they do for you, too.
At almost 72, I was dx'd when I was 30 at the death of my sister. What I've found over the years is keeping an even emotional state is very important, just to feel good, or ok in life. Try to get outside, walk, if you are near water, that's a huge one for me...just watching the rippling effect or sun shinning.
Watch your vitD level, your thyroid and get your kidney tested...those can trigger depression, your kidney due to some medications...no symptoms.
Also I listen to a lot of music meditations on utube to calm me, I love the flute and there are lots of Indian Flute meditations.
Lots and lots of books as well can help to explain. A Therapy I Love, Live By is called DBT. I volunteered teaching this and the book I used "The Kialectical Brhavior Therapy Skills Workbook for Bipolar Sheri Van Dijk and for Tools, The Bipolar Workbook, Monica Ramirez Basco.
Best To You...Keep Coming Back <3
I was diagnosed in my 30's as welcome after a few years of being diagnosed with depression/anxiety combo
I think it starts with working with your psychiatrist on meds and that can take a while to find the right med or combo and then finding other tools that help you maintain stability
We do have a very treatable illness so don't lose hope
Big hug...xo
