Had to call the cops on my bipolar girlfriend

We've been off and on since 1989. She has 8 siblings, and ALL of them have turned their back on her. I'm the only one who will help her. I'm staying with a 75 blind man at the moment and I awoke from a nap to hear them shouting at each other. He told me she had to leave. She's been staying here since mid-Dec 2014. The cops and the crises intervention team took her to a hospital.

The thing that bugs me the most is that she has never said she has bipolar. I read lots of other posts where the person knows, and tries to get help. She won't do this.

Lately she's been talking loudly to herself and screaming at times. I know it was the best thing to call the cops, but I still feel lousy.

We are bipolar here, some of us have been in her position and may have negative memories about how we were Treated by our own families and loved ones.

We do sympathize with you but enjoy the freedom we have with each other, to be with those who understand our perspective.

I have a friend whos' son exhibited the same behavior and was DX schizophrenic or maybe schizoeffective/BP.

when she's lucid, try to convince her to seek help and there's no shame in having a mental disorder.

Maybe introduce her to this board but she has to get to a doctor to get proper DX.

Big hug for you paddlepop... I'm so glad that you called and she'll be getting the help that she needs...I know that it's not easy

Does she stay on her meds and do what she needs to do in order to be well??
That's really imperative for our wellbeing and for those who care about someone with bipolar

She needed help and you helped her get it. I understand why you feel lousy. I had to call the police b/c s friend of mine was terribly manic and threatening to take his life. I felt terrible, too. But in the long run, even he thought what I (we) did was in his best interest. Check out the link Door gave you and maybe it will help provide a little more insight into her behavior and, more specifically, your reaction to it. It's a hard road sometimes.
