IMHO Bipolar Disorder definitely is the result of organic brain dysfunction, it would behoove your bf to seek out education before he makes more critical errors in his approach. Anyone within radius of one afflicted with Bipolar knows how disabling this disorder can be, I can feel your frustration and hope that you do not let it get the better of you. One thing about being Bipolar is patience is continuously required of us; which can complicate our lives.

I would ask him if he considers diabetes to be a physical disability and if so; it is not so different from Bipolar Disorder in that it requires meds and affects ones mood.

Oh, Hanna, I bet you must feel so damn frustrated by his 'ignorance". And to think he has studied about it and still doesn't get it because he has never experienced what we do. Grrrrr is right. I don't blame you one iota for being ticked at his general attitude about bipolar. Hope everything works out for ya Sweety.

Its people like this that cause the stigma and problems we all experience. My advice is to find someone who wants to learn and accept your disability, you have it for life, and need to learn to live with it. Someone who is telling you these type of things is only going to bring you down further.

So annoying. Last night my mom told me that she doesn't really believe in medication for these types of things. She also doesn't think I really have depression or bipolar becasue I didn;t show any signs as a kid. Maybe she didn't pick up on the signs, but they were there...I guess no one really understands unless they have it themselves. Frustrating.

He's very insistent that since there are meds that can stabilize me that it's not a "forever" illness. "It can be cured, even if you have it for the rest of your life."

Huh? Cured...but have it rest of my life? Oxymoron. Big emphasis on the MORON.

Like nobody666 said, Im not medicated at the mooment and im rapid cycling, send him down to me for 2 or 3 hours and see what he reckons then.
He'd run a mile and probably be damaged for life at what he'd witness.

I should list all of the disabilities covered by the gov't that aren't physical and ask if he doesn't believe in those either.
