Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.
That must be tough. Usually there is a denial period, but at least you truly know WHY you are experiencing a continuous roller coaster. I hope the experiencing of accepting comes easily.
Just told my dad and he said he was relieved because it helps him understand why i was the way i was when i was growing up.
Hoping that I can move on now. Dr starting me on depokote so will have to wait and see how it goes
Been there and done that. I used my therapy to help me get past it. Might as well do something with therapy.
But I think your denial and shock if pretty well the normal response to finding out you have a disease - any life changing disease. You will go through some stages of grief, but in the end, you will find acceptance, for the most part. Welcome to the club!
Though this is a life long illness, it doesn't have to control or destroy your life. With treatment and open mind and willingness you can still have a productive relatively happy life.
There are many life long illness that people live through and still are OK, some forms of cancer, Hepatitis C, Diabetes, and the list goes on.
You CAN be OK.
The years since have been more difficult. One think I've found is that I so desperately want everyone around me to tell me that the BP Dx is true and right (like friends and family) and the people like pdocs and tdocs who tell me the Dx explains a lot I love to completely disagree with and ignore.
It's confusing at times and I didn't know up from down but the rumination has leveled out, things have changed, and what seemed really important right after Dx has lost some importance.
Bottom line: I wish I had been nicer to myself, more accepting, given myself more time to just absorb things.
Good luck! and welcome welcome.
At first I didn't see it, but finally realized that SOMETHING was indeed gone wrong, and submitted myself to my family's requests that I be evaluated.
For me, it was a great relief to learn that that something had a name, and could be treated.

i am sure this is hard to take even though you already knew. im in a similar position myself. going to see the dr on friday will probably have to deal with the same sort of reaction
i hope you're okay, just know that the label doesnt have to mean anything other than just a name for what you're going through. you're still the same you. xx
