This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.
I would think a pdoc would warn someone about the possible risk if it were a concern. It has become so popular to take for so many things, I'd think we'ld be hearing about it if it were a potential problem.
How do yoiu tell what caused what? I've used fish oil for a long time and I feel that it adds some stability but hasn't caused noticeable mania or depression for me. That doesn't mean that it can't cause those things in some people. 1,000mg of fish oil is a pretty light dose. We need to go by the amount of DHA and EPA we're getting and for my brand, taking two 1,200mg capsules gives me 720 mg of effective DHA/EPA. I'm taking 8 capsules a day now and I used to take 12. The information I've read is that the therapeutic dose for depression is 2Grams to 2.5Grams daily. Whoa! There are concentrated liquid fish oils that provide more DHA/EPA but I stick with the capsules. So pick your best option and go for it!
