My son is 5 years old, and was hospitalized in a psychiatric hospital for 11 days over the summer. He got dx'd w/ ADHD, mood disorder and ODD.
Honestly, the ADHD dx is just to cover their asses. What child with issues doesn't get dx'd with ADD or ADHD? So the pdoc continued to treat him with all of these stimulant meds. Today the pdoc finally agreed that my son is, indeed, having paranoid delusions and hallucinations.

I was feeling like shit b/c of adjusting to my own meds...but now I don't even notice them b/c everytime my poor son mentions that some bad guy is near him with a gun, he really thinks it's happening. F'ing pdocs. They don't have a clue what they're doing.

you should be able to sue their asses off.
Would therapy be a option here I wonder?
I think I want a different pdoc for him. Ugghh.
if a case was successful, the floodgates would open, and medical practices would go out of business all over the place
I feel just so terrible for him. His sleep meds aren't helping as much b/c he's too scared to go to sleep. It's horrible to witness.
Why was he in the psych ward to begin with? Did his dilusions begin before or after? Meds may have induced them but I would be asking what went on in the hospital that may be bothering him. Dont give up and work closely with his therapist. Docs just do whatever they can and most the time it is an educated guess. Just like with us and our meds. Who the hell knows what is going to work. I am just so sorry for you and your son. Please know you are in my heart and prayers. Hugs

I'm upset b/c I talked to the pdoc about my discomfort in treating him with stimulants to begin with, he assured me it was "right"...and I agreed to it.
I should have trusted my own judgement to begin with. pdocs just do what they want to do, and it doesn't matter what you say. I think they're treating him for the wrong illness...I don't think he has ADHD, I think he has a mood disorder, he's an unfortunate young beeper, it would make more sense than the regular "pull it out of your ass" dx of ADHD.
Is he seeing a children's pdoc? This just really aggrivates me that his age is not taken into consideration with meds or even taking the time to properly dx him. This world and the next, what do you say!!!!!!!!!!
