Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.

When I started psych meds, it didn't take long before I had gained 115lbs. I've had my goal set here on DS for a long time and my goal is to lose 100lbs. I've managed to lose 40lbs so far.
I read an article this morning that said to involve friends in my weight loss journey. The problem is... I don't have any friends really.
I was just hoping that maybe some of you could offer me some words of encouragement to reach my goal and keep me motivated.

Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.

I'm trying to drop about 60lb myself so I know the struggle it can be!!! Keep up the great work and don't forget to treat yourself with something special once in a while for all your great effort! ox

I'm also trying to lose weight and not doing very well. Also a result of meds - although prednisone was my culprit.
It's sooooo easy to gain weight with these darned meds, and with depression, etc - I hear ya, because I found out What It Took for me to lose weight last year, even though I'd made a "little" progress before...and how easy it would be for me to just Quit now, and gain it back, because of depression and situation.....*sigh* - I Directly blame bipolar now. lol
I still have 60 pounds to lose myself, HannaH, before I'll be satisfied (enough) - I've lost 50 since last summer. (I "had" lost 60, and gained 10 back!! So now I'm mad....grrrrrr) :P
Best of luck to you - if you'll let me know how you're doing, I'll let You know too -
Mary Anne :)
I lost a lot of that weight when I went off Lithium and on to Topamax.
Topamx didn't work, I went through several meds , with my weight going up and down with each new med.
A few months ago my Pdoc put me on Zyprexa, I gained 28 Lb's in 28 days !
I have slowly lost a lot of the weight, bit not all of it.
I think it takes more time and effort ( that I don't put into losing !)...to lose weight while on BP meds.
I lost 2 Lb's in the last 2 weeks , so I am pretty happy with that...little steps .
Good luck
This is awesome.. Im so happy for you..x
I didn't do anything to lose the weight. I just stopped taking meds. The 40lbs came off with no effort, the rest of it seems to be a different story.
Thanks again.
