Gone to the same one for many years and made a million friends who have so been there for me!

Years ago I went too a DBSA group for a short time. I have a hard time with the structure and decided that I had less problems than anybody there so I quit. Never been to another group, found I did better with journaling.

i got kicked out of one, it was very upsetting. anyways, my sister laughed at the irony now i do.

I've been to 3 intensive outpatient groups - I think they last a month or so. At first, Not terribly helpful - as I was too nervous about the people around me to actually get support. The third one wasn't as bad - which is good for me b/c otherwise I won't leave the house. I found group sessions on mindfulness very illuminating and I'm all the more pleased with myself for learning to use these skills in real life. My caseworker just signed me up for another group - I'll see how it goes

I went to a support group for people who have gotten weight loss surgery and those who want to get it like myself. I found it helpful talking to others that are int he same boat I am as far as being obese and the struggles that go along with that. I got to vent and listen to them tell thier stories it was a good thing.

No. I want one on one attention. I don't want to use my time to listen to other people's problems.

I found it really helpful to be around other people who understood what I was going through....kind of like here only better!

True MayB. It does feel good to know that others are having problems too, it's not just you.
I got that from my hospitalizations. Support groups just irritated me.

I'm really not a group person, especially when it comes to sharing information. I like one-to-one. I prefer to focus on someone and respond to them; not wait my turn.

I would go but there is always that one asshole who makes it hard for me to want to. I need to put my big girl panties on and just ignore these kind of powerless twirps LOL

Yes, i haven't in a while, but i think I'll go this week. Many people become good friends there. I haven't made friends there yet. I'm very selective i guess.

I love groups. The feedback from a group is so different from that of your therapist. I learn a lot about myself through others at groups.

I went to a group in the offices of the clinic where my psychiatrists office is located. It was a mash up of mental disorders and not geared toward those with bipolar disorder at all. I found it to be a waste of time but that's what happens when you're thrown into what they call a "catchment area" in my city of Toronto. They treat every sort of mental problem in those offices and so there was no coherent program to deal with the problems faced by a bipolar person at all. It's just another problem with the services available to people with different mental problems here who get tossed into groups that make no sense. It really turned me off of group therapy, though I suppose I should search out some kind of bipolar disorder group here in the city and try that out to see what it's like. If of course such a group does indeed exist here.
