If someone is delusional do they know rationally that the belief is untrue but can't help believing it anyway? Does it depend on how "far into it" they are? I guess what I mean by that last question is are there any kind of levels of delusions? Do delusions always mean that you are experiencing psychosis? And also I was wondering if paranoia and delusions always go hand-in-hand or if they can be separate from each other. Thanks for any answers! :-)

I find myself going places in the car and not wanting to get out of the car. I come back home and I don't want to get out of the car. I think it's the only time I spend reflecting. Chronic tiredness from Long Covid plus the immunosupressing meds for my Crohn's is slowing me down but everything just seems a massive effort. I am dealing with the paperwork following my father's death but it's not...

Wow, it's the middle of the week already!Today is our 11 year anniversary, so we're going out to a nice dinner. I'm losing a lot of sleep these days, hence a wonky schedule and uncomfortable feelings. But I know it will pass, eventually.I hope all of you have a peaceful day, and may good things come your way!

As delusions are treated you can see in hindsight, sometimes, the folly & the terrible sickness of it..but some people never can attain any insight (& have protracted psychosis)
people either are psychotic or they are not.
Same thing, you see?
I'm not saying there is a gray area, at all.
ie/ someone with OCD might fear they'll catch aids from someone sneezing...they know rationally that's impossible...but they still fear it.
It's not a delusion..more like an anxiety.
Outline definition is "a belief that is firmly held but on inadequate grounds, is not affected by rational evidence or argument to the contrary, and it is not a conventional belief the person might have given their cultural background or education"
However that is really inadequate because there are things like body image that could perhaps be included. So additional criteria include
- they are false beliefs
- they are arrived at through abnormal thought processes
- they are usually odd or improbable beliefs
does that help?
