Do you have anxiety about the state of the environment? I try to keep it in check but it is always in the back of my mind. Sometimes I get so discouraged that I don't even care about recycling, but I still do.

I've been a conservationalist and had some training in environmental stuff in the past.
As for climate change - to an extent it always happens but it is happening faster right now. That means that in the environment some species are winners and some are losers - generally the trend though would be to overall decrease species diversity, leaving only the tougher, more adaptable and mobile species.
As for the fate of humanity - I suspect once the developed nations start to feel the effects seriously then we will find a way to deal with it globally. In the meantime it will often be some of the developed nations that will take the brunt.
But overall we will survive, so will the environment in one form or another.
But continue to recycle in the meantime - it does make a difference.
You can't make money if half your customers are either dead or too poor to buy your goods.
And despite what people think, alot of industry is changing and preparing itself. If customers demand for example cars not powered by gas they are there with the solutions.
Industry are doubly tied to the people. We are their customers and if we decided they could be out of business tomorrow. Seriously.
They are then tied by our pension investments in them. Put pressure on your pension provider re where they invest and whole sections of the corporate world could disappear overnight.
It's just another attempt at Government Narcissism.
Even with the hope of keeping the temperature rise to 2 degrees C, which is unlikely to happen given the substantial changes need by 2040- the cut-off year in which emissions must be substantially lower or else, disasters will happen. I'll be approaching 80. How old will you be?
Figure in China and India and you can forget about it. And what about the rapid rates of extinctions which are occurring. Without biodiversity food will be very limited. According to this very academic article we won't get there, and even if we do it will be to late for the catastrophes to be prevented.

Now I'm not so confused. It's hopeless. Very sad. I hope my daughter doesn't have a child because I will be doubly nervous.
