I have an obsession with expensive champaign. I keep buying bottles costing up to $120. I want to buy a bottle of DP this afternoon but it's cost is $119 per bottle. I keep thinking about it and wanting it and obsessing about it. Is this OK? What can I do? What will allow me to stop?

tell your pdoc there are ways to help from therapy to meds it sounds like typical bp overspend behaviour, l obsess when l try to not buy what l want my mind tries to justify the expense while l rage against it l'm trying th therapy route.

I don't get it. You are Bipolar but you don't have any mood stabilizers listed unless I missed that. Maybe if you were on those you wouldn't feel like this?

It isnt so much what will "allow" you to stop but what will "allow" you to buy it. What "win" will make you more successful in your journey to manage your disorder and your life decisions?

Are there reasons you should not buy it? Make a list of them and focus on those every time you start to obsess over buying it. Wanting it is the obsession, not buying it is the practical solution.

Oh I used to really obsess over things and would somehow make an excuse/rationalize why I should get it.. I have spent sooo much money on some really ridiculous things, but even now I still think y'know can't take it with you when you die.. but it is good to have it for when you really need it though... We are lucky we have some extremely generous and wealthy friends who have helped us out when we were in trouble (and we pay them back - always) but still had I lived within my means more we wouldn't need to ever ask for help, y'know? I find that I can be too generous with other people as well and sometimes other people take advantage of that.. My sister and I are so alike in this, I guess it was how we were raised, I think she is worse actually than I am... but when we are not able to splurge it is funny how some "friends" dissapear... Anyways try to really rationalize it - be like do I really need this bottle of champagne? Limit it, y'know save it for special occasions only.

Vickybea is right too - tell your pdoc.. I had to tell him when I went nuts buying perfume recently - I bought over 70.. and recently I think I am kind of manic because I kind of went semi-nuts buying handbags and a wallet... and more perfume (just 2 this time) :-/ and I was just trying to rationalize a purchase from Crabtree & Evelyn when I probably have one of the largest shower gel/perfumed lotion collections :-/

Yea probably a med tweak is in order.

    I find myself going places in the car and not wanting to get out of the car. I come back home and I don't want to get out of the car.
