I really want to quit. But I know I'm addicted for realz now. I use to quit when I was younger all though I'd pick up sooner or later. Still at least I could put them down when I actually wanted too.
But now I can't put them down no matter how hard I try. I know they are killing me and not just because every one told me so. I can feel them killing me slowly now. I might butt the cigarette out just to relight it a few moments later.
I do love the electronic cigarette too. And I use it. But I still need to buy the real ones because even though the E cigarette tastes better and feels healthier it's not satisfying for me. I'd rather use it because it doesn't feel like hot death and toxic fumes. The main reason is simply the psychology of smoking the real one. I need to see the physical cigarette slowly burn down to feel like I fully smoked one. And I hate the fact that I can only take 3-5 drags on the E cigarette and then put it away for awhile. It's not the same as smoking a real cigarette.
Over all though I'd like to quit. My house smells terrible even to me. It's disgusting. And I feel hot death every time I light one up.
And no the patch doesn't do jack shit for me sorry. I use to smoke on the patch. It' isn't just the physical addiction any more. I have the mental addiction now too.
Ultimately I'd like to quit.

Hey all, i know its been quite awhile since i posted on here. Its been a summer all right. Its been something else........... You know how they say not to open the can of worms? Well a few months ago i decided to find out what my due date would have been for my first baby, the one conceived by r***. My baby would have been due on March 4th of 2006. They would be 20 years old. I was R**** on June...

And that's a problem because every where I go there are always smokers. Now my mom even started smoking just three years ago. After all those years of her nagging and bitching at me to quit. And she's in the cancer field she treats cancer patients for a living.
Well I need to think of how I can make more of an effort to quit. think I will just try to stick with the E cig after this pack is gone. Yes it's going to be exercising maximum will power. Yeah my dirty house has shown my will power LOL.
Well actually it's pretty clean now. But it took me a long time until I felt well enough to clean it. Just hope I can stay well long enough to escape these death traps. And I'm not sure it isn't the fire proof chemicals they now put in them that's killing me faster. Asinine government. I think they are trying to kill us on purpose. What's more expensive paying for fire's caused by cigs or paying for massive medical bills and hospital fees once all the cigarette smokers are sick and dieing from this new chemical? And who's to say it's not more addicting than whats already in the cigarettes naturally?
Any how it reminds me of my illegal drug days. You don't care whats in the drugs because you are addicted to them. You'll pretty much keep smoking rat poison while you are at it. But hey at least the dealers stopped selling that batch that had nail polish remover cooked in with it. That was the worst crack we ever got. And every crack head was complaining about it.
But that's neither here nor there. I want to quit either way.
He bought some smoke away and in three days quit cold turkey. I dont know if its still out there but she said it worked. But your the one that has to be ready 100%
It is very very hard.
There are plenty of excuses not to quit. I had stopped smoking for over a year after rehab. It's always stress or some other emotional que that starts me up again. But now I'm smoking for other lame excuses like boredom or just because some one else is smoking around me. Now I can respect what alcoholics must feel at parties where non alcoholics can enjoy just a few drinks with ease.
And when I was young I quit off and on. I quite for both pregnancies and I was able to kick for a few years at a time. But now I can't even kick it for long at all. Maybe a day or two before I cave in and buy a pack. I don't feel like I use to. But neither do the cigarettes.
Come to think of it. I really do want to quit. I'm not satisfied with them any more and that is the reality I was missing. What ever the difference is they aren't the same any more and apparently neither am I. I have to try to quit again.
Well here's to tomorrow.
Thank you every one for your love and support as always. You guys help me in ways you'll never know.
I have tried quitting many times, but as soon as any stress shows up the first thing I do is run and buy another pack :/
I want to kick the habit so bad.. but when ever it feels like the "right time' something turns it into the wrong time. I am with you girl *hugs*
Truth be told I just hate the cigarettes and I'm being stupid. I KNOW it's the new fire proof shit they put in them that is making me hate them. It's probably some scheme by the government to make people quit or die off. It tastes like sin and feels even more toxic than they already were.
It is a sign of true addiction to keep using a drug long after you stop enjoying it. I think this is my rock bottom as I now realize I am not enjoying them. But it took me posting this and every one's love and support to realize that.
I haven't lit a single cigarette after my 2nd reply. Because I just can't take them any more, they are foul and retched tasting burning my throat and lungs up in ways that make me hate them. They give me a head ache. It's just time to quit them and if I really feel the urge I can use the E cigarette. I'm sure there are still health risks with it but at least it doesn't taste horrible and feel like hot death down my throat and lungs.
Even I was sitting here thinking what the hell? These make me want to quit but my psychological addiction was keeping me on them. I think I may just be over it now. I had a similar conclusion when I quit crack. It took me a while but eventually I just wasn't having fun or enjoying it any more. And then I was scared I was going to die on the street with out taking another bath or my family knowing what happened to me. I realized that, that was one of the most insane things I had done in my life. I had a house yet I was living in my car in the middle of fricking summer and didn't bath for two weeks. I smelled so horrible I wanted to jump out of my own skin. And the kicker was I hadn't even been getting high any more for a whole week! I was still chasing a high that was never coming and for what?
But hey at least I realized it. Some people die on the street and never realize that they aren't even having fun any more. They keep chasing the high and never realize that it isn't worth it. That's part of the addiction. Drugs keep you sick as long as you keep using them.
Still I think I have hit my rock bottom with them. I guess I can thank the government for it because I may not have quit if they didn't taste like straight up shit, make my house smell so horrible that when I open my door I can smell how bad my house smells. The air is stagnant and dirty. I keep throwing away money on something that leaves me unsatisfied in live. It's time to cut out the dead weight.
I wouldn't keep doing this with any thing else so why have I been smoking long after I knew I didn't like it or enjoy it any more. After all I keep lighting them up and butting them out about two puffs into it. Then moments later I light it up and do the same thing. It means I don't like them but my mind still has a craving.
I suddenly have the same identical feeling about tobacco cigarettes as I do for crack. Disdain, anger, hatred and disgust! I don't feel tempted by crack any more, if I see crack I feel anger and if I see some one else using it I feel pity. I don't even feel the love or the chemical romance for cigarettes it just the force of habit now.
Guess I was still sick and didn't know it.
I can honestly say "I will never smoke again" because I will never pick up another cig again. I know better now that I am an addict and just one will trigger my addiction.
The way I quit this time was to prepare mentally by listing all the things negative about smoking and realizing there really is no positive reason. All the reasons I thought were positive like "it calms me" was false. It didn't "calm" me, it created more anxiety. The false sense was created by my mind. Realizing that I knew I could create the sense of well-being with my mind also.
I reapeated the positve things daily and thought about all the ways my life would improve if I quit. I quit on January 2nd so it would NOT be a new years resolution but a life choice. I found one thought to use whenever I craved which was "smoking one cig was like licking an ash tray". I would think very hard about licking an ash tray whenever I quit.
I am helping my third son quit now by talking him through all the things I did to quit. I had to quit cold turkey because I knew as an addict I would not quit gradually.
Some of the more positive things about quitting for me?
Saving money
improving my health
not feeling isolated from other friends
kissing my husband without feeling self conscious
no more discolored teeth
better breath
My list goes on and focusing on that helped encourage me. I made a point to develope a "new habit", a healthy one that could replace the oral and tactile fixation of a cig. The nicotine addiction was something I had to overcome by struggling through it like any other addiction. I had to wait until it was out of my body and realize that the pain of withdrawal was so much less than the long term effects.
Best wishes for your success doorknob, I know that if you put your efforts into it, you can quit smoking............xo
I meant here...........I would think very hard about licking an ash tray whenever I craved.
I was going with a goth who smoked Djarum Blacks clove cigarettes. They smelled so good!!! I bummed two off of him one evening. That was it. The next day I bought myself a pack and there I was. Right back where I use to be, a couple of decades earlier. Sigh. Even worse than before!!! I got up to two packs a day, this time!!!
It was a bitch to quit again and took a couple of tries before it stuck. But I've been off of them for over eighteen months now, so I hope I'm through.
Good luck to all who are trying to quit!!! I wish you success!!!! (((((Hugs)))))
