Romantic relationships can be very rough. People with BPD tend to react on quick judgements. In other words, if a problem arises, it is easier to walk away and move on to the next one, than to stick it out and try to make it work.

I move around a lot. Bailing is easier. I'm trying to change but, it's very difficult to change your nature!!!

I have had this same question. One of the pdocs I see thinks I hve this, another one doesn't. It seems like a lot of the symptoms overlap with Bipolar. Sometimes I think one doc is right, and sometimes I think the other one is.

faith I know exactly what you mean I am borderline schezoid and I did that to so many of my boyfriends, got upset they didn't change, and I just went on and moved on with my life.....I've dated more people than I can count on my hand. I am now married =) about time

As far as percentages go -- not a clue. In my professional experience, I don't see that much overlap, online, I've seen a fair amount. I don't know what to make of the difference.

When it comes to anything that is new to me, I generally go to the bookstore and start reading. I found this book several months ago on BPD and it has helped me to understand it alot better. The book is "Stop Walking On Eggshells" by Mason Kreger

Another amazing book about BPD is "I Hate You, Don't Leave Me" by Jerold J. Kreisman, Hal Straus It's a quick read and only 7.99 in the bookstores.

Borderline has some symptoms that are similar to bipolar. A lot more impulsive tendancies and an increased inability to hold down commitments.

Prarieweasel. What you are talking about is codependant personality disorder. Not borderline. They are two different diagnoses. Get your facts straight.

I don't agree with Sherry 1 that you should take a mood stabilizer just for BPD BPD is an axis II disorder while Bi Polar is an axis I diagnosis. Axis II diagnoses are personality disorders whose behaviours are learned. However if you are on a mood stabilizer for BP it won't hurt the BPD hope that's not too confusing. All axis means is a way of catergorizing mental health and medical diagnoses in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual that health care professionals use.

Mood stabilizers and anti-depressants are often used to treat BPD. Anti-psychotics may also be used to treat certain symptoms. However, anti-depressant and anti-psychotic therapy alone is usually contra indicated in people that suffer from bipolar. Without a mood stabilizer in place these drugs can often increase symptoms. The majority of personality disorders are not learned. There is a difference between being codependant and true codependant personality disorder. Just as dissocial personality disorder or any of the others. BPD basically means on the "borderline" of psychosis. Hence the name. Dilectal behavioral therapy may not work on all people. It did not help me that much. But then again I am dual diagnosed.
