Bipolar and Menopause

I'm experiencing both of them and its putting me through horrors.  I know there are people here that have gone through the same thing.  Big hugs.

HRT.... The best med I've ever used and it literally works overnight.... Big hug....xo

Yep, after I had my hysterectomy I had to do HRT meds, BiPolar tends to go off the rails when your hormones aren't stable. Its just one of those unavoidable things the we women get to deal with! Yay Us!

Does menopause increase hypomania and mania only, or also depression? What about perimenopause? My period is infrequent and light, so not in menopause yet which I think is defined as one year without periods. But I am 52

The lack of hormones effected my depression more, but then the HRT meds made me Manic, so I had to be careful with which ones I could take and what I couldn't. Its a balancing game that has to be monitored by both your GYNO and Pdoc.

And yes Perimenopause does effect it. I went through all this at 36 due to the hysterectomy, so I don't think about it anymore now that I'm 52 and at the age where I should be.

Thanks, OlderCPer. If my hormones are not checked in my next blood test, I will request my hormone levels to be checked and then ask my next psychiatrist if he thinks that's a factor in my case.

    Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.
