Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.
Does anyone find they force themselves to avoid sleeping when in a depression?
Sometimes I legitimately try to sleep but can't (insomnia) but sometimes I straight up just avoid going to sleep and I think it happens more on nights when my mood is "less bad depressed" so I don't want to go to sleep knowing my mood is likely to be worse in the morning....even though not sleeping is obviously just creating a self fulfilling prophecy perhaps.
Clearly there's some cognitive distortions (unhelpful thinking patterns) attached to this. Anyone know how to think about it better?
I dont like being stuck in this "I don't want to sleep because I'll feel worse when I wake up then I do right now" mentality....
Thank you!

Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.

Do you meditate or do mindfulness?... These are things that can help to clear your mind
I take Melatonin a lot of night's to help with sleep.... It's over the counter and along with our regular meds can really help with sleep IMHO
It's in the body naturally ... I hope that you can find some way to sleep soon... If you can't I would call you psych.... Big hug....xo
i just have to keep an eye on it i do not sleep much anyway and it can easily slip into hypomania but then i am hypomanic most of the time partly because of the lamictal which can cause sleep problems
i have been doing this all if my life i was cyclothymic as a child progressed to bipolar 1
