They sleep all day and stay up all night barking at nothing. Every now and then there ears perk up for no reason like they are hearing voices. The will sleep with any B* in site. and go manic if they even hear the leash. Yet they are happy with life. Why can't we be more like our Bipolar Dogs. =)

Good Question.

I told my dad that I think our dog has PTSD like me. Today he flipped out when my dad accidentally snapped the newspaper against the door as he was coming in the house. We think his former owners used to beat him. Poor pup =(

I don't see why not. Dogs have similar health problems as us. Dogs have seizures, and some suffer from depression.

I always tell people my chihuahua is BIPOLAR
One minute she is nice and then the next she will bite them.

well I don't know about dogs but my cat sure is a fruit loop..... running around like crazy and chasing shadows... seeing things that aren't there..... plus some days she just won't talk to me and all she does is sleep... too cute tho'

The problem is that dogs are not primates, and while they may suffer from PTSD due to sense memory of being beat. They can not be bipolar because they lack frontal lobes, and therefore lack the brain capacity to have a mood disorder such as Bipolar Disorder...

In order to have a complex mood disorder the animal must have frontal lobes these animals do not have these, and therefore cannot have a complex mood disorder....

LOL, too funny 666. I think my poor baby is depressed all the time until the leash comes out. She is also older now and has arthritis. Now whenever I look at her I will think of this thread. Hugs

All dogs may be bipolar but not all bipolars are dogs.
