Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.
I use alcohol to curb anxiety. and it became a habit. so much that i realized also that when i committed to no alcohol at all. i was not happy. I gave myself lent for no drink, 40 days. and then i will reassess. but it has been hard for me too. every day it gets easier, that is the good part. i even ate a burger at the bar the other night and ordered coke to drink.
there is a st pattys party i go to and this year i dont really want to , because the girl who usually slams the most irish car bombs and puts the men to shame.. is going sober.
it is a burden when you realize you arent what everyone else defines as an alcoholic, but your alcohol intake is out of control for you.
i had someone tell me about a meeting called celebrate recovery. it is based on the 12 steps, but it is for all addictions and is not focused on the... i lost my wife, my kids, totaled my car and woke up in jail after a night at the bar.. kinda stories. i dont know if there would be one in your area.
i have not gone myself, because once again, i dont know if i will like it. and if i can get thru this on my own, with med management for the reason i drink anyway (besides my irish car bombs :) i will do that instead...
do what you have to and see yourself thru this. reaching out is good. you are not alone.
be honest with yourself and you will know.
there is a disclaimer in AA that says its not for everyone and even mentions people with mental disabilities..
Don't go places like bars and clubs til you are 6months to a year sober. AA teaches you about people, places things. Change your play ground and change your friends if they don't support you. I never had anything bad happen. But, I knew if I followed this path I would die, that simple.
Dont listen to Nutter, AA is a great place and program. Try it out for 90 days and see how you like it. Don't isolate, Get phone numbers from women in the meeting and USE THEM! Pick up that 100 lb phone when you feel like drinking and talk thru it or play the tape thru as they say in AA. You definitly QUALIFY
if you didnt notice winner.. i offered a different 12 step program called "celebrate recovery" and it is focused more towards people who want an AA based program but with people who havent been face down in their own puke at 11 am which i am assuming from your response you mightve a time or two... just a guess.
oh what is that.. take what you want and leave the rest... arent you a shining example of what AA releases into the public. keep preaching.
she said in her original post...
"nothing bad has ever happened to me because of alcohol so i dont have a ..i- dont -wanna-be-there-again story"
i have experienced the same thing, and left AA because I didnt fit in. I felt uncomfortable. at what point was relating to her shooting her down? you should reread and point that one out for me...
BTW I'm not religious i believe there s a God but I don't pray or go to church
