Hi Everyone! Long time no see.
I'm going to keep this as short as possible.
I was arrested for assault last month for poking my fiance in the chest and slapping him across the face in front of police officers. (I called the police after he shook me off him and I fell down the stairs and he went after my kids...not to hurt them, but, I felt, to slander me).
I am being charged with 2 class A misdemeanors (which carry up to a $2000 fine and up to a year in prison...per charge). I see my lawyer today.
I was in the midst of a BP manic episode and I have plenty of proof of that (hospital records, tdoc and pdoc records), but I don't want there to be any question of my parenting. I don't hit my children, hell, I don't even raise my voice. I've never hit anyone before in my life. I also have 4 years documentation from my tdocs that I've been emotionally abused.
Truth is, it was a combination of the 2. Emotional abuse and a BP episode. What should I tell my lawyer?

I re-enacted what I did prior to him doing anything. I never even got so far as to say that I was pushed down the stairs and that he was harassing my kids. I was arrested the minute my hand slapped his face.
Arrested for 1 poke to the chest, and 1 slap across the face.
It's dicey, BP may or may not (more often?) be taken into account in US.
I hope you get a good advocate..I dunno, Hanna. :( I'm guessing your kids witnessed this?
Have you split with this BF?
My oldest had this happen to her. Even tho she had bruises proving that he had assaulted her and the missing chunk out of his arm had indeed been done in self defense she was hauled in to and charged.
Be honest with your lawyer as I made my daughter be and lawyer then went before the judge and got it plea bargained down to like 5th degree disturbing the peace which was necessary for her not to loose her nursing license.

Yeah, as of that day I considered us broken up. He just moved out less than a week ago.
I just don't want there to be child protective services involved b/c it's completely unnecessary.
