Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.

I was once told by a nurse in hospital that people with mental health problems, including bipolar often find themselves easily addicted to things. Is there anything you feel you are addicted too?

Hey All...I hope that you have a lovely, peaceful beginning of your weekI have a bunch of chores that need doing but may put them off til tomorrow and just hang out with my landlord/roomie todayWhat about you?...Anything special going on?Have a great day and take good care of you!!..Xo

I think that idea could make sense. If you think about it - addictions arise out of a need for an extreme coping mechanism. And that fits right into mental illness.
On a more serious note, I have or have had problems with percocet, morphine, klonopin and currently ativan.
Been home 1 day and 11am when I'm due back at the hospital cannot come quick enough.
I have an addictive nature, so it's pretty easy for me to get addicted.
I haven't smoked for 2 years, haven't done alcohol and drugs for many years. But I do have a problem with sweets. One cookie is never enough.
SMOKING on the other hand...no matter how many times I try to quit I just can't kick the habit. :(
I have a weird addiction with buying cute hats too, but I never actually wear them. Maybe 5 times a year....huge waste of money :|
Chocolate. No problem there, none whatsoever.
Pain. Damn. I can stop and go without pain any time I want to
Carbs. Eat my cereal and if there's no milk in the morning, I might kill you.
Anger. Let's not go there, ok? That has been by far the most destructive in my life. But I have also come to perceive it for what it is: my worst enemy. And I"ve also learned ways to keep it to a minimum. The (very, very) hard way.
