I'm pretty sure the acne I have is from taking lithium, which really helps me live my life and stay stable. But the acne is killing my skin... It's on my face, chest, stomach and lower back. I live near the beach, and last summer, I didn't go to the beach at all because I was too embarrassed about my skin, plus sun on acne= scars. So I'm thinking of switching mood stabilizers to something else. But it could be dangerous. Life is good in my brain for the most part (except some seasonal depression feelings) and I'm ready to possibly throw that away and land in an episode and being hospitalized and being totally thrown off. OR it could work, and I could have nice skin again. I'm an attractive girl (or so they say) but when I look in the mirror I see a hideous pimple monster, and I can't live with that. Self esteem way down.
What do you think? Should I make the change?

Everyday I feel more and more sick. Being in pain every day, I've learned to disguise it. So well that others don't believe my pain when I speak of it. Needing help but only receiving negative responses, I find my way but pay for it later. I absolutely need the rest but there's pressing things to be done.

Ugh my depression is really being triggered by the grief of losing my mom. Ugh it sucks. I wish this pain would leave me already.

Personally I wouldnt mess with my stability for it
Have you discussed it with your Pdoc?
Perhaps there are other drugs which can be added to the Lithium that will help clear up your skin.
IF you want to start taking even more meds than you do right now.
I guess there's no way to know for sure ahead of time if switching to something else will work as well for you, mood-wise.
Have you ever been on anything besides the Lithium and, if so, how did it work?
I don't have the 'skin thing', but I do have the 'weight thing'.
So I understand some of what you're going through, trying to decide which matters the most, 'looks' or stability.
Stability almost always wins out, I think, but the best thing is if you can find something that works for you on BOTH fronts!!!!!
Good luck!!!!
I have a feeling that you're probably a little harder on yourself about your looks, but how you see yourself is how you see yourself!!!
Do your best to see what those other people who tell you you're attractive see!!!!
They're probably right!!!!

And for you both, I have been trying to find some kind of cure for the acne like proactiv and mario badesku and burts bees and dermatologist's recommendations. My dermatologist said she thinks the only way I wouldn't have acne is to go off the lithium. She says the lithium is over producing oil in my body and it appears as cysts. Oh yeah I have cystic acne so I have big welts everywhere. And they're painful. I can't live like this.
I wish you the best
