There is something happening to me and it is making me depressed. So much that I don't like to go out of the house. I have acne. Real bad. I've always been a pretty girl and lately I've been comfortable with my body (my weight has fluctuated in the past) but my face is covered in volcanoes. I don't feel good about myself anymore. I'm not reaching out to friends or trying to make new ones because I don't want people to see my face. I'm also not going to the gym, doing errands, or anything else that requires me to leave the house. It's been like this for a couple months. It's not just the acne, I'm having a difficult time with most things these days, but, the acne is really getting me down. Does acne go away eventually? Or do you have to buy special creams for the rest of your life?

grenadine -- LOTS of medications can cause acne too. I forgot to mention that. I had problems on a high dose of lithium like jimlucky. I also had a problem when I was on the pill. Just another reason to talk to the doc.

acne at your age may be a side effect or health problem... i never had acne til i got older and it was because i have poly cystic ovarian syndrome.... and yes acne really sucks..... birth control seems to be helping mine but you better find out why you have it first, proactive works too.

jimlucky, I'm on 1200mg of lithium... hmm... I wonder if thats too much. I'm definitely going to ask my doctor about it when I see him. I got an appointment to see my dermatologist on Wednesday so I'm excited. But I may need to talk to my psychiatrist about it so I'm going to bring it up when I see him.

i had a severe acne problem ... the only thing they could come up with was my meds were creating my acne problem. i went to the dermatologist and she prescribed acutane... its a medication ... i took it for 9 months and my face is clear. i didn't want to see anyone or do anything anywhere someone could see my face. i didn't even want to see my family. i know how you feel

i had acne when i was a bit younger.
the only thing that worked for me was aloe gell straight from a live aloe plant.
it is a miracle cure for me, but it feels pretty slimey.
it has to be from the plant itself though, cut off an inch long section of one of the `arms', and squeeze the stuff out and put it directly on the acne.

Thanks for the advice everyone, hopefully I can get to the bottom of this and start a treatment that works.

I am on lithium and lamictal and I can't tell which one is causing the acne problems. I am giving proactiv another try and it is actually helping a bit. I was told to use an apricot scrub for the scarring as well.

Oh I heard that you shouldn't use apricot scrub (with the little beads in it I think?) if you have acne but maybe I'm wrong. Proactiv may be a good way to go, I'm considering going on the pill... I have gone on it for acne before and it worked.. so
