Am I being shallow?

NO, you're not being shallow. Do you have a dermatologist - if not, can you get to one?? Are you on Lithium by any chance? I know of great skin products that help my skin and I'm on lithium.

I got acne as an adult not to bad though. I treid proactive and followed it to a tee. It went away. I also drank alot of water and watched what I ate. Not i do not use proactive or anything to be exact and my face is clear. I understand that your body and keep you at home mine has done the same with all the weight I have gained on the Haldol. Staying inside is a comfort and a safe place although not healthy at all unless you want to be a recluse. I encourage you to take baby steps like walks in private parks or something that you like that is not to busy to over whelm you. Somthing that I have thought of and it helped me was I really don't "look" at people in the face, i could miss a celebrity walking by and not even know it, that helped me to think there were a lot of others out their like me who really didn't pay attention. I do have a dermatologist, I found him when I started getting this acne. He prescribed me medication that was around $170 and it made my face more red and irritated. And yes, I am on lithium. What do you use?

Thanks dorkieyorkie, I heard that if you cut out dairy and all wheat products it will improve your skin. I bought almond milk as a substitute for milk... it's pretty good. I could definitely increase my water intake. Thanks for the tip. And I miss walking... I was walking in the neighborhood everyday and I stopped... I started to get self concious again.

No you aren't being shallow. I'm 41yo, still have breakouts that bother me.

You know, when I was taking lithium I put on weight and got real bad adult acne.....I had the pdoc switch my meds because of it. I don't have any idea as to what will help.....but I hope you get some relief soon! ox

water will help your skin soooooooooooooo much l have always had a love hate thing with acne until a very hot summer l drank pints of water everyday it took 2-3 months but my skin was glowing. its producing too much oil for your pores to cope with they get blocked and you get eruptions drinking water helps cut down on the oil so fewer spots be careful of fatty foods that help your skin making excess oils.

I stared getting acne as adult as well, it sucks. The only thing that works for me is Netrogena Deep Clean Face Wash, it doesn't irritate my skin at all. I do have to wear Clinique make up though..the Even Better formula. It has done wonders for my skin since I started using it. Oh, and their Dramaticly Different Moisterizer is good too.

And, no you are not beng shallow at all. I can completely relate to your insecurity.

tats, I wonder if it's the lithium that is making my skin like this. I wonder if I ask my psychiatrist or my dermatologist about it. I'll probably try both.

Thanks Vicky and Bluefly, water is on my list and I'm going to ask my dermatologist about the products you suggested. I just need the acne to clear away from my skin. I'm glad to know that I'm not being shallow... it's really just weighing me down.

My skin has changed over the years. I had no pimples as a teen then in my 20's I had them, in late 20's my skin was very dry. Now my skin is oily so I have to wash everyday with nutrigena.

When I was on 1200mg lithium I had the same problem.How many mg are you on?When I complained to my pdoc about all the other side efects she lowered it to 900mg and the acne went away.

Talk to your doctor about the acne. There could be a lot of causes, and it might have a simple solution.

Acne can come and go. I don't have acne on my face. I get the occassional pimple, but I really have it bad on my back. I guess salacylic acid helps. I think that's the active ingredient in Oxy and whatever acne medicine is out there.
